This snack always intrigues me, its crispy skin and delicious filling make me buy it very often at the market. At first I thought this snack was made from non-vegan ingredients. However, who would have thought that the ingredients used were 100 percent vegan. Finally, after yesterday I saw inspiration on the internet for recipes for various pastel preparations, I found pastel filling and a simple and very easy way to make pastels.
Pastel Filled with Sweet Potato and Carrot
Pastels filled with sweet potatoes are a fried snack made from flour. Then it is filled with sweet potatoes and carrots. However, who would have thought that sweet potato filling would be so delicious when combined with carrots. Moreover, it is wrapped in pastel skin which when fried becomes very crunchy. The combination of simple ingredients always turns out to be more spectacular than what is sold out there when we dare to try it with the ingredients we have and of course with our own style.
Materials Used
- 3 sweet potatoes
- 2 carrots
- 4 cloves garlic
- 2 Spring onions
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground pepper
- 100 grams of wheat flour
- 2 tablespoons margarine
- 1 tablespoon cooking oil
- Enough water
Cooking Procedure
Making Pastel Filling
Peel and wash the sweet potatoes and carrots until clean.
Then cut the sweet potatoes and carrots into small dice, after cutting, keep soaking in water so they don't turn black.

Puree the shallots and garlic, and then sauté with a little oil, shallots and garlic with a little water.

The spices with a tablespoon of cooking oil until fragrant. Add carrot and then salt, pepper, seasoning according to taste Saute

Then cook until tender, season with powdered salt and pepper, adjust the taste, cook until cooked until the water has reduced, then let cool.

After making the pastel filling, next I will prepare the skin mixture, then apply the filling that I have made to dry. At the stage of making the skin dough, make sure to make it according to your taste. And don't forget, you can roll it out with whatever tools you have until it is as thin as possible.
Making Pastel Skin
Add the flour to another container, then mix the flour with salt.
Then add margarine and cooking oil then stir the mixture.

Add the mixture little by little while stirring until the dough is smooth.
Applying and Pastel Skin Filling
Once the dough is ready, the filling is ready. Take a small amount of flattened dough and mold the dough into a round shape.

Fill with enough filling ingredients, close the dough, then pinch the edges of the dough according to taste or print with a pastel mold.

Once all the dough has been made, then fry the pastels in hot oil, using medium heat until golden brown.

Results
Pastel snacks with sweet potato filling are ready to be served, serve with chili sauce or whatever sauce you like. It is very suitable as a snack to break the fast or while relaxing with the family.
My nieces and nephews were so happy they enjoyed these pastels after I happily made them. I barely got a share when breaking the fast. Haha but that's enough to satisfy me this time.
The crunchy taste on the outside is savory and the natural sweetness of the sweet potatoes and carrots makes it very delicious. I love this and I think this is my first successful pastel. Maybe in the future I will have to buy a mold so that the results and shape are neater.
