Hello plant based foodies, wherever you are in the world and the galaxy! Here @sirenahippie

We have seen in recent weeks that new users have arrived to the community, presenting recipes that are plant-based, however, we have also seen the repeated use of cubes for seasoning, and these ARE NOT VEGAN INGREDIENTS.

We are going to reiterate information that we had already presented in a previous post, which refers to the definition of VEGANISM. According The Vegan Society, veganism is:

"Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals."

Regarding which foods are allowed in Veganism and which are not, The Vegan Society, these are:

"There are many ways to embrace vegan living. Yet one thing all vegans have in common is a plant-based diet avoiding all animal foods such as meat (including fish, shellfish and insects), dairy, eggs and honey - as well as avoiding animal-derived materials, products tested on animals and places that use animals for entertainment."

Now, as can be deduced from the previous information, any food or ingredient that has elements of animal origin in its composition IS NOT VEGAN. If we apply this reasoning to the seasoning cubes that are usually sold, as well as instant soups and other similar seasonings, they are NOT VEGAN.

Let's look in detail at the reasons why seasoning cubes and similar ARE NOT VEGAN:

  • Within their composition, they have a large amount of artificial ingredients, which are harmful to health, and which are not accepted by veganism. Examples of these ingredients are: Monosodium glutamate, preservatives and stabilizers, artificial flavorings.

  • Animal fats are used in its preparation, such as chicken, pork and beef, which is why they are ABSOLUTELY ruled out in veganism.

  • They have a high amount of salt, which represents a health risk.

That said, we hope that you refrain from bringing to this vegan community recipes that include flavor cubes, seasonings or instant soups. If you would like to post recipes with these ingredients, we invite you to visit the Foodies Bee Hive community. If you are interested in knowing which foods are vegan and which are not, we invite you to read the following post:
