Dear friends, wishing you all a wonderful day! How are you today?
Today, I prepared a delicious Sri Lankan-style alu kesel mallum (savory ash plantain mix). Mallum is a beloved traditional Sri Lankan dish, known for its simplicity, rich flavors, and high nutritional value. This flavorful alu kesel mallum combines the freshness of grated coconut with aromatic spices, creating a delightful blend of taste and texture. Beyond its ease of preparation, this dish is a fantastic way to enjoy the health benefits of plantains, which are rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals. It’s also a great addition to a wholesome and balanced diet. So, let’s see how to make this step by step!
Materials Used.
Ash plantain 250g.
1 Cup of Grated coconut.
1/2 Teaspoon of turmeric powder.
2 Tablespoon of coconut oil.
Curry leaves.
A little chopped onion.
2 Green chili pods.
1 teaspoon of Mustard seed.
About 3 cloves of garlic.
Salt powder to taste.
The cooking process as follows.
Now, as the first step, peel the ash plantains and cut them into small cube-shaped pieces.
Next, take a pot and add about two cups of water. Place it on the stove and add the chopped ash plantain pieces. Then, add a pinch of salt and turmeric powder, and let it simmer well.
Next, take a wooden mortar and pestle and add freshly grated coconut, curry leaves, green chilies, onions, garlic, and turmeric powder. Pound the mixture well until it forms a smooth and well-combined coconut paste.
Next, take another pan and place it on the stove. Add two tablespoons of coconut oil and let it heat. Once the oil is hot, add the mustard seeds and allow them to splutter. When the mustard seeds start popping, add the prepared coconut mixture and mix well. After a minute, add the steamed ash plantain pieces and cook for about 3 minutes.
So, these ash plantain (alu kesel) fritters are a delightful combination of freshness and nutrition. The delicate flavors of the bananas, blended with the richness of coconut and a hint of aromatic spices, make this a satisfying snack for any Sri Lankan meal. If you haven’t tried it yet, now is the perfect time! Share this healthy and delicious treat with your loved ones. That’s all for today. Wishing you all a wonderful day!
