Wishing a wonderful day to all my dear friends! ❤️

Today is Sunday, a relaxing holiday for the entire family. To make the day extra special, I prepared a delicious Yam Curry (commonly known as "In Ala Curry" in Sri Lanka) to enjoy with rice. This dish is a classic Sri Lankan traditional recipe, and its true flavor shines when paired with steamed rice and a touch of fried coconut (haal pol). This curry is not just flavorful but also packed with nutrition. Yam is rich in vitamins, minerals, iron, and calcium, making it a healthy addition to your meals. It also contains medicinal properties and is often referred to as yum or suran in some regions. The best part? This curry can be prepared with simple ingredients already available at home! Let’s dive in and explore how to create this mouthwatering dish. Stay tuned for the recipe!

2 1/2 Cup of coconut milk.
2 cloves of crushed garlic.
2 Tablespoon of water.
Onion - 1/2 (finely chopped).
1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder.
1/2 Teaspoon of chili powder.

Curry leaves.
Green chili 2 (finely chopped).

The cooking process as follows.

Now, let’s get ready to prepare this flavorful dish! The first step is to clean and prep the yams. Start by peeling off the outer skin of the yams carefully. Once peeled, rinse them thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt or residue. After cleaning, cut the yams into two halves and set them aside in a separate bowl. This will make it easier to cook and ensure the pieces are evenly prepared.

Next, take a pan and place it on the stove to heat. Once the pan is hot, add the rice seeds, cinnamon sticks, and curry leaves. Let them sauté until fragrant. Then, add the grated coconut to the mixture and stir well. Allow the mixture to toast until it turns a golden brown. Once done, remove it from the stove.

Next, transfer the mixture into a mortar and grind it well using a pestle. Add a small amount of water and continue grinding until it forms a smooth paste.

Next, take another cooking pot and add the prepared yam pieces, chopped onions, garlic, salt, green chilies, chili powder, turmeric powder, and curry powder. Mix everything thoroughly and pour in the coconut milk. Place the pot on the stove and cook the mixture for about 8 minutes, allowing the flavors to blend and the yam to cook thoroughly.

Next, add the prepared paste and the remaining coconut milk to the pot. Mix everything well and continue cooking for another 5 minutes, ensuring all the ingredients combine perfectly. Once done, remove the pot from the stove.

So, now this dish is ready! I believe it’s even tastier than potatoes and more nutritious too. It’s enriched with a delightful aroma and pairs wonderfully with both rice and bread. I think if you have access to this type of yam, you should definitely try preparing it this way. That’s all for today. Wishing you all a wonderful day ahead!

Whoaa, curry is comfortable flavor for special dining. I often made curry, usually with potato, but never try with yam.
