Wishing a wonderful day to all my dear friends!
How are you all doing? These days, Sri Lanka is in the midst of a festive season. And during times of celebration, one of the most beloved traditional Sri Lankan sweets—mung kavum—always holds a special place at tea tables and festive gatherings. Today, I’m excited to share a unique twist on this classic treat—mung bean-infused kavum. Known for its nutritional richness, mung beans not only add depth of flavor but also bring valuable health benefits to this delightful snack. The soft, spongy texture paired with the natural aroma of roasted mung flour makes this version truly stand out. It’s a healthier way to enjoy a time-honored delicacy with a nutritious boost. So let’s dive into the step-by-step process of how to prepare this wholesome and delicious treat!
Materials Used.
Mung bean flour 250g.
200g fried rice flour.
Sugar 300g.
A little salt to taste.
3/4 cup of hot water.
Some water.
rice flour 200g.
1/2 Teaspoon of Turmeric powder.
A little finely ground cardamom and garlic.
The cooking process as follows.
First, place a pan on the stove and let it heat up. Once it is hot, add a portion of the sugar and allow it to caramelize gradually. As the sugar begins to turn golden brown, gently add a little hot water and mix well until smooth. Then, add the remaining sugar and continue to cook until a rich caramel forms. Mix thoroughly to ensure a smooth consistency.
Next, remove the prepared caramel from the heat and add rice flour, mung bean flour, a pinch of salt, and water. Mix everything together thoroughly to form a smooth batter-like mixture.
Next, take a tray or a flat surface and lightly sprinkle some roasted flour over it. Pour the prepared mixture onto it and spread it out evenly to form a thin layer. Then, cut it into desired pieces or shapes.
Now, let’s prepare the batter to coat the cut pieces. In a bowl, mix together rice flour, a pinch of salt, and turmeric powder. Gradually add a little water and stir until a smooth batter is formed.
Next, place a deep frying pan on the stove and add coconut oil.
Allow the oil to heat up well. Once the oil is hot, dip each piece into the batter and gently place it into the oil. Fry until the snacks turn golden brown and crispy.
This mung bean-infused kavum offers a fresh twist to a beloved traditional treat, bringing both flavor and nutrition to every bite. Perfect for the New Year season or as a delightful tea-time indulgence, it's a wonderful way to preserve tradition while embracing healthier choices. I hope you’ll try making this at home and enjoy sharing it with your loved ones.
That’s all from me for today. Wishing you all a beautiful day ahead!
