This is a great insight on crypto wallets. I didn’t knew the utility of a public key until now. I had the impression that a public key is just a way to mask the private key but they could also be the location of a wallet. I also learnt that we should be very cautious when sending our crypto funds to wallets we don't control.

Indeed. I think if it is temporarily as in the case with centralized exchanges, we can be a bit assured that it will be returned to us later down the line. But I think the better option is utilizing DEXs where the whole process is within one's control.
