my board game collection

in Hive Collectors12 days ago (edited)

my game collection is rather small. i move around a lot so i don't keep any of the typical board games that come in a cardboard box. but a do have a few games that are transportable. they are either in a nice case or are small and light. the game i am most fond of is backgammon. i've had this set for about 35 years and it has seen a lot of use, though admittedly not so much recently. it's a great classic game often played for money and can get quite intense at times but i have only played for fun on this set

of course i also have a chess set. i've been playing since i was a kid but cannot brag about being particularly good at it. i am strategic enough but too impulsive to be able to plan and foresee several moves ahead offensicely and defensively at the same time. so i am strictly an amateur and enjoy an occasional game with my grandchildren

the set is from India with nicely carved pieces

and a great case to keep them in

while there isn't any board involved i am including my Mikado game. it's a pick-up-sticks game where you try to extract individual sticks without moving any of the others. it's showing signs of wear as i've had it for years. the color coding is fading and without it one can't keep proper score. so perhaps it's time to replace it

but it doesn't take up much space and there's too much sentimental value attached to it, making it hard to throw out

a few years a go my sister-in-law gave me a more modern game- Bananagrams. it's fun and easy to learn and it is very transportable

it's an english language crossword race type game. though my first language is english i spend most of my time speaking norwegian so when pressed for time, sometimes norwegian words come to mind and i have to use time to discern whether it's a word in english or not. maybe i deserve a slight handicap playing against people who only speak english😁

apart from cards, the game i have played the most the past few years in Yatzy.
it's another classic i've had for years, good for young and old alike. winning any particular round is mostly based on luck but in the long run strategy counts. and it's great for honing your addition skills

once i played with @hindavi and she got 5 Yatzy's in a single game. can anyone top that?

I definitely declare myself a fan of the board games of previous years, without a doubt they are the best in terms of quality and design and these are a clear example that some years ago they took much more care in making them, made of wood, leather, durable material, they are beautiful 😍

good point. my grandchildern can play games that my grandfather had when i was a kid

It doesn't matter that your collection is small, it's great, you have your sets well taken care of; the chess (even though I don't like it) I loved it, it's very cool as well as the first set in the briefcase. The sticks game I never played it but I know it and the last one you mention I will investigate it to know more about it because it looks like some I have played. A hug, it was a pleasure to visit you, have a great weekend 🙌😀💛.... You Rockkk!!! 👍😎🔥📸❤️

thanks so much for the positive praise board games have an increasingly needed social element that you don't get with video games.

I used to know how to play backgammon, but have forgotten it has been so long since I last played. I do enjoy a good game of chess though.

both are classic games. the origins of backgammon date back 5000 years and chess 1500 years. to last that long they have to be good
