My keychain collections

Hello friends and community members, this month we are showcasing our keychain collections, which were announced by community host @mipiano.

I grew up in a small village in India, a place where people trusted each other and it was not necessary to lock the houses, so there was no question about the key chain and nobody knew about it. However, the lock system was in place. I remember my grandmother never locked her house, but she locked her chest in which she kept her money or some valuable things. She wasn't afraid of outsiders, but my alcoholic uncle always tried to steal her money or jewelry. She hung the key on a string like a locket. This was a common practice in the village.

I kept my office cupboard key on a jute string, even though I had lots of fancy key chains. It reminded me of my childhood.

Then there was a little improvement. My mother used the same way to keep her key to the family chest, as we had no cupboard system at that time. The metal chest held our valuable things, our father's money, our mother's, and our jewelry. She used a smooth, silky string together with a small ivory knife and silver earwax remover. From time to time, she had cleaned our ears. I hold that knife and earwax cleaner not for use, but for the memories of my mother.

When we had a school picnic at a historical site, we saw many different nice key chains for the first time. As a little girl, it was quite expensive to buy. I bought my first one there - it was just a normal ring with a small symbol of that place, which I had given to my father, but one of his assistants stole it.

When we moved to a little bigger developed town, some stationary shops were located around the school where we could buy school materials. Many times we saw the key chains, but we had no keys to put on them, so it was a waste of money at that time.

Now, I have a huge collection of keys just for fun or giving away as gifts, mostly each time traveling to India, carrying at least 40 key chains holding stuffed animals or funny figures or reflectors to give away in the neighborhood. Now all the children use bicycles, and at school, they keep their extra belongings in school lockers, when I give those key chains to them they are very happy.

At present, I have a little collection here which are active key chains, practical key chains, and just-for-fun key chains.

Hello @hindavi

Glad to see your collection and even nicer is to read about those memories from your childhood. I consider it very nice and interesting, now I imagine carrying a key around my neck, on a string. 😇

The calendar to find your day of birth - that one is super cool! 😎

Thank you, dear @mipiano, that was the very slow development of my country at that time. that was fun in childhood carrying my grandmother's key around my neck and walking with her from place to place visiting other relatives. Carrying/hanging a key around the neck still here in the Western world I saw they use a little fancy belt instead of a string. Sorry for the late reply. your comment was hiding is something unusual going on with ecency? Have a nice weekend. !HUG

I still find it more interesting on a string ;)

No worries, it is never too late for a reply. Thank you, Hindavi! 🗝

Wow, that's a great collection of key chains, you have a lot to choose from! I had no idea about this custom of carrying them tied with a string around your neck, the truth is that living with the peace of mind that you can leave the door unlocked, it seems impossible nowadays.

I was very impressed about carrying those personal hygiene items hanging from your neck, I imagine it's something common but it seems super weird to me hahaha but according to what I understood, more than a keychain the idea was to have the essential elements at hand. Ok there are always things to discover.

Now I feel like I need a keychain with a flashlight like the red one! That sure looks useful to me!!!

Thank you for your comment. I will save that red keychain with a light Maybe one day when we meet, you can get it from me hahaha🤔 Now the world is so small. :)

Oooh that's such a nice and hopeful detail, I love the idea of devirtualizing users and materializing the connections we create within the platform. I hope it can happen, not for the interest of getting a gift, but for the nice detail from you. 😊

I'm looking forward to it. It's nice to meet nice people. :)

Of course it is, people from all over the world meet here regardless of how impossible that might have been under other circumstances. Thanks for responding and being so kind :D

Thank you take care. :)

where do you keep the key to my heart?

in my soul box. :)

In a way the key rings are also like a trip to the past, some of us have kept them for so many years that when we see them we can remember some of the experiences we have lived 😍

The penguin is beautiful and the calendar to find your day of birth is super 😍

Thank you very much for your comment. It was the Indian culture how it developed slowly. The old-style key holder string/chain still exists in small villages. villagers with traditional ornaments and those strings look very special. I had many animal key chains but I took them to India and all were given as gifts for children around there. greetings :)
