With winter finally here, it's time to pull out some scarves to keep me nice and warm when I go out. I normally stick to one or two throughout the whole winter because once I use one, I'm too lazy to find another one. When @mipiano announced the Scarves, shawls, bandanas for this month's Hive Collectors theme, I figured it's the perfect opportunity for me to do a stock check. I don't really know how many scarves I have, not many I guess, as I'm not a big scarf person.
Checkers
These are my two favorite ones, and from the opposite of the spectrum. The one on the left is from Primark, a very affordable fashion retailer in UK and Europe. I bought it 2 or 3 years ago, for under £10, it might have even been £6. If I remember correctly they labelled it as a sustainable product made from recycled plastic. It doesn't feel plastically at all and feels just like normal man made material. The problem with this, is that so many people have it 🙃
The one on the right, you might recognize the iconic Burberry pattern. I love this scarf, it's so soft and fluffy and feels very luxurious, worth every penny that I paid for. Ok, it was a lot more expensive than the Primark one, but not that expensive because I bought it at the factory outlet. And when you consider it will last me a long long time (I've had it for over 10 years now) it is great value for money.
Lighter scarves
In the 90s pashmina suddenly became a very 'in' thing and everyone was buying one. For those not familiar with them, Pashmina is made from cashmere from Himalayan goats. Specifically they only use hair from the chest where it is the finest and softest, and not a lot on each goat. The rarity, plus the fact they are all hand made meant pure pashimina scarves were very expensive. Back then, a bunch of us girls from the office managed to get a colleague from our India office to source some for us. It worked out a lot cheaper and we knew we were getting real pashiminas (assuming our colleague wasn't ripping us off or he wasn't ripped off by the seller). I've had my pink pashmina for a long long time now, and like my Burberry scarf, it's worked out to be really good value for money over the years, and it is very soft ..
The white scarf is more of a summer one to keep me warm in the evenings when I'm wearing short sleeves. I can't remember where I got it from, maybe in Thailand. I don't use it a lot as I keep on forgetting I have it.
Other scarves
The knitted one on the right is my early autumn scarf when it starts to turn cold in early autumn. It's not very thick but keeps the wind out when it gets a chilly. It's done its job for this year now.
The two in the middle, the brown leopard spot and white and pink flowers I seldom use, particularly the brown leopard spots, that is so un-me, I don't even know why I have it. The problem with these two is that they're very light and are more decorative than functional. With me being a practical person and don't keep up with my appearances much, they're relegated to the drawer most of the time.
And this one of the left. Again I don't know where I got this from. It's tricky one to wear. It's made of velvety material, hence quite heavy but it's also got the see through patches. When I wear it, it tends to lump together like it's strangling me. Not my favourite.
Squares
And these re the square scarves. I think the blue one is a present from my brother, it's silk and from Liberty's, a high end department store in London. The yellow one is a Burberry. It was from one of my ex line manager, a rather wealthy fashionable lady who was very generous with her staff. Hand on heart, professionally, she was one of the few nice line managers I had in the past. The problem with square scarves is that I don't know how to wear them. I've looked up on line and youtube vides on how to tie scarves, but I always think I end up looking like an air hostess!!!
Promo gifts
And finally, I found these two when I put my scarves away after their photoshoot. That's why they're not in the group photo. They're a freebie from my mobile phone company. Every now and then they give out random gifts like hats, skin care products, health snacks, chocolate and these scarves. These scarves are quite loud and have the company logo slapped in the corner. They're still in their bag, I'll probably give them away to people in need. It's Christmas, I'm sure it will keep someone nice and warm.
Nice topic! I'm a big fan of scarfs ...
I also love big soft and fluffy one. And yes, I remember the pashmina boom. I think it came a bit later to Japan. Haha, good old memory ☺️
Looking forward to seeing your collection too :))
I love my Burberry one and save it for the coldest weather to make sure but lasts me many years. Did you jump on the pashmina wagon as well 😀

Very nice! I have a couple of scarves myself. It's usually gotta be sub zero for me to wear them though. I guess that would be about -18 for you folks over there!
That's awfully cold when it gets to bsub zero for you, I'd be freezing at that temperature 😬🫨🥶
It's brutal! Especially when the wind kicks up!
No scarves collection for me. I think I have two of them. I don't wear them often and there nothing to write home about. Interesting information about the goat fur scarfs.
I was anticipating a photo of you looking like an Air Hostess, haha. I guess I'll take your word for it, haha.
You work a lot outdoors and at odd hours, it must be freezing for you in the winter.
All I can manage is a double knot, on the few times I've tried, I even look like a girls guide 😅
I only bundle or layer up when it's my 0 degrees (-17° C). Scarfs not good around equipment, safety. I will wear a face shield or ski mask.
Hmm another possible line of work for you, a scarf model 🤔 😆
Haha! I don't think I'll get very far with that
I just resort to a woolly scarf when it's really cold. A lot of women seem to use scarves as decorative accessories. That's fair enough, but I dress with what is practical.
Me also, need practicality more than anything else since I rarely dress up. If I throw one of those light scarves on, I'll probably end up strangling myself 😂
Am not usually a fan of scarves though cause it's always hot here. People do use them to do lots like decorating the hair with it like the yellow and the one close to it.
I guess that's a good use of scarves if you want to spice things up a little
Yahh there are very useful
So many scarves! I have two, a giant doctor who one and a skinny urban hipster/junkie type one. I only ever use the doctor who one though, it's like a blanket!
Doctor Who fan? I've never watched it before despite all the hype. It sounds like a massive scarf, the type I'd snuggle up in on a cold winter night time
It is indeed, sometimes it's almost too big! But winters up here demand it!
Yay, I knew you would have a beautiful collection! Thank you for the explanation about the pashmina, I knew they were expensive but didn't know why. And don't forget about the white one with the blue tree, flowers and butterflies. That one is sublime, my favourite from your collection.
Personally I find the white scarf a bit odd as I always think scarves are for winter and white doesn't keep you warm 😄
Glad that someone has better taste than me!!
Thanks for a great theme this month
I always learn a lot here (pashmina).
What a collection you have! My favourites are the one with the butterflies and the yellow one with the... horses?
I find I learn a lot of random things on Hive as well, it's great isn't it.
And you have the same good taste as @mipiano, or maybe you're both from hotter countries?
I think the yellow one may be horse playing polo, I would check for you but I've put it back at the bottom of the drawer, and because you know I'm so lazy, I can't be bothered to go dig it out again 😅
😁
Yes, I thought they were polo players. Don't worry about looking, and enjoy the mood.
Yes, I think one of them may have been from that BKK trip. 😎
You have such a good memory. I was looking at my Chiang Mai photos, I went after BKK and I had it with me
Haha, thank goodness for digital photos.
Very nice collection, the butterfly one is beautiful and from what I read in comments is one of the most liked hehe excellent explanation, every day we learn something new 😊
The butterfly one does seem quite popular with my friends here
I think you would make a super "trolly dolly" LOL
I will end up having to get passengers to help me chuck baggage in the overhead lockers, don't think that will work out well 😁
LOL.
Ah gotta love Primark, but it does remind me of the Ford Mondeo jokes ... very plentiful shall we say.
Pashmina oh yes that cost me a bob or two back in the day, very very soft though. At one point I was almost going into business with a changthangi goat herder, but it all fell through.
As for the head scarfs, they are always pretty but aren't they what your granny wore as headscarves to keep their perms or roller sets dry...
I'm not aware of the Ford Mondeo jokes, gonna check it out.
You would have done well if you got in the pashmina business at the early stages. I think it all kicked off with some celebrity wearing them. Wouldn't be surprised if they made a fortune out of it
