Hace un par de semanas atrás te comentaba que suelo coleccionar cosas un poco fuera de lo común, digamos que tengo gustos bastante particulares y que no muchas personas logran comprender. Ya te había hablado sobre mi colección de calcetines coloridos y también sobre mi colección de washitapes (cintas adhesivas decorativas), ahora es momento de que te hable sobre mi colección de merch de un personaje animado llamado Mang y que forma parte de BT21, pero antes de mostrarte mi colección de productos de Mang debo ponerte un poco en contexto para que comprendas como es que mi colección fue tomando forma.

A couple of weeks ago I told you that I usually collect things a bit out of the ordinary, let's say that I have very particular tastes that not many people can understand. I had already told you about my collection of colorful socks and also about my collection of washitapes (decorative adhesive tapes), now it's time for me to tell you about my collection of merch of an animated character called Mang and that is part of BT21, but before I show you my collection of Mang's products I must put you a little bit in context so you can understand how my collection was taking shape.
My collection of Mang items
Supongo que en algún momento habrás escuchado a hablar sobre la banda de K-Pop llamada BTS, ¿cierto? Si no es el caso, no te preocupes, puedes ir a googlearlos para que los conozcas un poco. El punto de todo esto es que BT21 es un grupo de personajes animados creados por los integrantes de esta banda surcoreana. Cada uno de los siete miembros de BTS participaron a profundidad en el diseño de sus personajes, desde la creación de los bocetos hasta la elaboración final de la historia del personaje, de hecho, los nombres de cada personaje animado fueron escogidos por cada uno de los chicos. En concreto, son ocho personajes que conforman a la familia BT21, en la que siete de ellos representan a cada miembro de BTS mientras que el octavo personaje llamado VAN, el robot del espacio, representa a ARMY, es decir, al fandom.

Hace un año atrás cuando comencé a adentrarme en el mundo de BTS no tenía ni la más remota idea de qué rayos era BT21, pero cuando comencé a indagar un poco más con respecto al asunto ya no hubo vuelta atrás. La historia de cada uno de los personajes me atrapó por completo, además de que son tan adorables que es imposible no engancharse con ellos. Poco a poco fui descubriendo la cantidad de mercancía que existe sobre estos personajes desde carteras, mochilas, llaveros, tazas y termos de agua hasta material de papelería, peluches y llaveros, siendo estos últimos los más populares y los que suelen comercializarse mucho más.
Todos los personajes de BT21 tienen algo en particular que me atrapa, pero mi favorito es Mang, el personaje creado por J-Hope. Según la historia del universo de BT21, Mang es un personaje al que le encanta bailar y esconde su verdadera identidad bajo una máscara de caballo que tiene una nariz en forma de corazón, pues a pesar de ser muy alegre le falta un poco de confianza para mostrarse al mundo tal cual y como es, pero luego de mucho tiempo ocultándose decidió quitarse la máscara dejando ver su adorable rostro de ardilla y es por ello que existen dos versiones de él: Mang con máscara y Mang sin máscara. Ambas versiones son sumamente adorables.
Meet Mang with mask and Mang without mask
I guess you've heard of the K-Pop band called BTS at some point, right? If not, don't worry, you can go google them so you can get to know them a little bit. The point of all this is that BT21 is a group of animated characters created by the members of this South Korean band. Each of the seven members of BTS participated in depth in the design of their characters, from the creation of the sketches to the final elaboration of the character's story, in fact, the names of each animated character were chosen by each of the guys. Specifically, there are eight characters that make up the BT21 family, in which seven of them represent each member of BTS while the eighth character named VAN, the space robot, represents ARMY, that is, the fandom.
A year ago when I started delving into the world of BTS I had no idea what the heck BT21 was, but when I started digging a little deeper into the subject there was no turning back. The story of each of the characters completely grabbed me, plus they are so adorable that it's impossible not to get hooked on them. Little by little I discovered the amount of merchandise that exists about these characters from wallets, backpacks, key chains, mugs and water flasks to stationery, stuffed animals and key chains, the latter being the most popular and the ones that tend to be marketed much more.
All the characters in BT21 have something in particular that grabs me, but my favorite is Mang, the character created by J-Hope. According to the story of the BT21 universe, Mang is a character who loves to dance and hides his true identity under a horse mask that has a heart-shaped nose, because despite being very cheerful he lacks a little confidence to show himself to the world as he is, but after a long time hiding he decided to take off the mask revealing his adorable squirrel face and that is why there are two versions of him: Mang with mask and Mang without mask. Both versions are extremely adorable.

Al inicio no estaba dentro de mis planes comprar llaveros, peluches o algún tipo de mercancía sobre ninguno de estos personajes, pero una de mis amigas comenzó a regalarme pequeñas cosas de Mang dando inicio a algo mucho más grande: mi colección que abarca peluches, llaveros, material de papelería y recipientes para bebidas. Lo primero que adquirí hace ya casi un año fueron dos pines: uno de Mang y otro de Chimmy, el personaje creado por Jimin. La idea inicial era coleccionar los ocho pines pero esto se convirtió en una misión difícil pues en la tienda donde solíamos comprarlos las unidades solían agotarse bastante rápido. Mi segunda adquisición fue el llavero de Mang en patineta con la cinta de tela y la cual llevo en mi bolso conmigo todo el tiempo, por eso es que lo puedes notar algo sucio…sí, ya es hora de limpiarlo, lo sé. El llavero peluche de Mang con máscara fue un regalo de mi amiga en mi cumpleaños, lo cual dio pie a que me enganchara por completo con los llaveros peluche. El tercer llavero peluche lo adquirí en Diciembre y digamos que fue mi autoregalo de Navidad. Este llavero peluche es la versión NewBorn de BT21 porque sí, esto de los peluches es todo un Universo a parte en donde hay diferentes versiones de los personajes. Como podrás notar, en esta versión “NewBorn” el peluche viene con una cama e incluso es tan adorable que lleva un chupón, ¡es toda una ternura!
At the beginning it was not in my plans to buy keychains, stuffed animals or any kind of merchandise about any of these characters, but one of my friends started to give me little Mang stuff as gifts, starting something much bigger: my collection that includes stuffed animals, keychains, stationery and beverage containers. The first thing I acquired almost a year ago were two pins: one of Mang and the other of Chimmy, the character created by Jimin. The initial idea was to collect all eight pins but this became a difficult mission as the store where we used to buy them used to run out of units quite fast. My second acquisition was the keychain of Mang on skateboard with the fabric ribbon and which I carry in my bag with me all the time, that's why you can notice it a bit dirty...yes, it's time to clean it, I know. The Mang plush keychain with mask was a gift from my friend on my birthday, which got me completely hooked on plush keychains. The third plush keychain was purchased in December and let's just say it was my Christmas gift to myself. This plush keychain is the NewBorn version of BT21 because yes, this plush is a whole universe apart where there are different versions of the characters. As you will notice, in this “NewBorn” version the plush comes with a bed and is even so adorable that it has a pacifier, it's so cute!
Continuando con los peluches, en ese mismo regalo de cumpleaños vino también incluido un cojín del rostro de Mang. Podrás imaginar mi felicidad cuando abrí aquella bolsa de regalo y vi ambas cosas, ¡simplemente no lo podía creer! mi niña interna se encontraba muy feliz. El peluche de Mang de cuerpo completo y con su bufandita lo adquirí hace una dos semanas atrás en una tienda llamada Miniso que por fin, después de mucho tiempo, se encuentra comercializando productos de BT21 en Venezuela.
Entre otro de los objetos felpudos de esta colección, se encuentra este binder que no es más que una carpeta o libro para organizar y proteger las photocards, es algo así como un álbum fotográfico pequeño. Este tema de las photocards te lo explicaré en algún otro momento porque, sí…esta es otra de mis colecciones extrañas. El punto es que este binder también fue un regalo de mi amiga en Navidad porque de verdad necesitaba con urgencia uno para organizar mis photocards sobretodo aquellas que son originales.
Continuing with the stuffed animals, that same birthday gift also included a cushion of Mang's face. You can imagine my happiness when I opened that gift bag and saw both things, I simply couldn't believe it! my inner child was very happy. I bought the full body Mang plush with his scarf two weeks ago in a store called Miniso that finally, after a long time, is selling BT21 products in Venezuela.
Among other doormats in this collection, there is this binder which is nothing more than a folder or book to organize and protect the photocards, it is something like a small photo album. This topic of photocards I'll explain it to you some other time because, yes...this is another one of my strange collections. The point is that this binder was also a gift from my friend for Christmas because I really needed one to organize my photocards, especially the original ones.
Some stationery items: pens, washitape and sticky notes
Dejando de lado los peluches, ahora nos adentramos al material de papelería que incluye: bolígrafos, washitape y notitas adhesivas. El año pasado junto con el llavero y los pines adquirí mi primer bolígrafo de Mang con máscara. Realmente no es un bolígrafo en sí pues la tinta es similar a la de los marcadores punta fina, pero lo que más me agrada de este bolígrafo es que viene con una luz incluida que lo hace todavía más especial. También tengo un washitape de Mang que te comenté en mi publicación pasada, un nuevo bolígrafo que adquirí este fin de semana y un set de notas adhesivas que estoy pensando seriamente en no usar porque me parecen muy adorables.
Leaving aside the stuffed animals, we now move on to stationery which includes: pens, washitape and sticky notes. Last year along with the keychain and pins I got my first Mang pen with mask. It's not really a pen per se as the ink is similar to the fine tip markers, but what I like most about this pen is that it comes with a light included which makes it even more special. I also have a washitape from Mang that I told you about in my last post, a new pen that I got this weekend and a set of sticky notes that I'm seriously thinking about not using because I find them so adorable.
Para finalizar con mí colección tenemos estas dos últimas piezas: un termo de agua y un vaso que adquirí también recientemente en mis compras en la tienda Miniso. El termo lleva consigo como extra un llavero precioso, además me encanta porque tiene brillitos y es de uno de mis colores favoritos. Aún me faltan muchas cosas por añadir a mi colección, además de que me gustaría adquirir algunas cosas no solamente de Mang sino también del resto de los personajes. Lo más probable es que a final de año venga de nuevo a esta comunidad a contarles cuáles fueron las nuevas piezas que llegaron a mis manos, pero lo pronto así va esta colección y si te soy sincera, nunca planifiqué coleccionar este tipo de cosas, pero la realidad es que se siente bastante bien pues me siento nuevamente como una niña pequeña siendo feliz con las cosas que le gustan.
To finish with my collection we have these last two pieces: a water thermos and a glass that I also acquired recently in my shopping at Miniso store. The thermos comes with a beautiful keychain as an extra, and I love it because it has glitter and is one of my favorite colors. I still have a lot of things to add to my collection, plus I would like to acquire some things not only from Mang but also from the rest of the characters. Most likely at the end of the year I will come back to this community to tell you what new pieces I got my hands on, but for now this is how this collection is going and if I'm honest, I never planned to collect this kind of things, but the reality is that it feels pretty good because I feel like a little girl being happy with the things she likes.
