Turkish coffee is basically a style of coffee made from finely ground coffee seeds without filtering, usually with a touch of cream. The coffee is then served in small coffee cups. It is considered a bold blend that combines robustness with a touch of elegance. It is available throughout the Middle East and parts of North Africa. There are many types of this bold coffee; some of them are: Kulsi, Kayan, Kilimanjaro, Mughlai, Turkish coffee, Kavildizi, and Derinkun.
First of all, you need to prepare the turkish coffee. To do that, you need to put the finely ground coffee seeds into a pan and slowly bring it to a boil. Stir often and keep stirring until the coffee has begun to simmer. When it has, remove from heat and cover the pan tightly to prevent the coffee from burning. Leave for about five minutes so that the sugar can begin to dissolve and add milk and sugar as appropriate to your taste.
After that, it is time to stir in cream and sugar so that you have a rich and creamy drink. If you would like to add something else, you may want to try adding a little extra coffee or a dash of lemon or mint. Stir again, to mix the ingredients and let the mixture cool down. Then, you can serve it hot or cold. You may want to stir in vanilla ice cream or almond sauce after the second stir. You can also add honey and lemon juice to give it a sweet taste like no other.
If you want to make a really bold Turkish coffee, you may want to try putting in more coffee, sugar, and cream. Start by making one cup of the drink and add in the above ingredients until you have formed a fine, thin, medium-blended particle size. You can pour this over freshly ground coffee. You will find that it tastes better if the cream is added to the coffee early, right when it starts to solidify.
If you like the stronger flavors in Turkish coffee, then you may want to consider using cardamom, coriander seeds, cinnamon, and cloves instead of the sugar. Cardamom and coriander seeds are ground up and mixed with sugar. This gives a delicious, smoky flavor in your drink, but it also has a slightly bitter aftertaste. Cloves go well with most types of drinks, but the weaker versions of the spices do not overpower the flavor. If you have a stronger version of cardamom or coriander, then you can always add them later in the process.
You may also want to use Cezve, a strong variety of powdered turkish coffee beans. If you haven't tried this variety, it's worth trying. It is available in two different forms: finely ground coffee beans and ready-to-brew liquid. Try a small sample first to see how your body reacts to the sugar/cardamom mixture. If you find it too bitter, adjust the quantity of sugar in your recipe.
An essential part of the preparation of Turkish coffee is the milk which you add to the coffee. If you are not Turkish, then it may take some getting used to. The coffee has a very strong taste, so in order to fully appreciate its flavor, you should drink it with a glass of water. The same goes for the cream, but you will be able to taste the strong taste more thoroughly if you add the milk while the turkish coffee is still brewing.
A few cups of this coffee will give you the best flavor. Add fresh cumin and mint for a kick of spice, or adjust the amount of cardamom, sugar, and cinnamon in your recipe accordingly to achieve a true Turkish taste like none other. This blend of flavors, whether sweet or savory, is truly the essence of a perfect meal!
