D'aww thanks! (I had this tab open for days and only just realised)
Haha, sorta... I mean, if you go under the theory that "nothing is true unless it happens" then we're always lying to ourselves when we try to predict the future.
It seems that your approach is a flexible one, where truth is more of "what you make of it" (= self fulfilling prophecies). I definitely agree to an extent with the "Law of Attraction"-like stance, even though I can't stand people who swear by that book/rule.
My explanation as a basic psychologist is not one of cosmic energies, but simply a matter of attention:
We take a person having a day. That day has a lot of frustrating events, and also opportunities/fun moments.
That someone who is pessimistic/annoyed/angry, will notice all the things that anger him (e.g. my bike pedal loosened 2 days ago), so much so that he will miss the opportunities/pleasant events. (e.g. one day I was biking to work and I noticed a quirky salamander on the side of the path. Another, my flatmate walking to work)
Someone who is hopeful/energized/determined will ignore the noise and pick up on the opportunities given. An opportunity could be a small smile from a stranger (a new friend?) or perhaps, someone on the side of the road who needs help.
Having gone through the same day, the pessimist will say how lousy it was, whereas the optimist will say what a great day he had. They will both be right, subjectively and objectively because of what they engaged their energies in.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk :)
Lucky you! Talking slow is bearable - I hate knowing that I know a word, but being incapable of retrieving it. Or retrieving a typo'd cousin of the word I'm looking for. ("right to bear/bare arms")
There are all different perspectives to look at this, but I think it rings true whether from a more psychological perspective, a philosophical one, a spiritual one or a practical one. Law of Attraction....I try not to use this word because my exploration of it leaves me feeling its a much heavier and complex model than people give it credit for...having a subconscious mind and everything, and the relationship between the conscious and subconscious. It's not just a matter of words and images.
Actually I live by the theory that all things constantly coexist and I am merely moving through parallel realities that give me the illusion of time...lol this is a whole new can of worms though, how many do we wanna open? hahahha
Eh, worms are a delicacy - we should open many of them :)
I suppose you could look at it through multiple prisms, as mos things. I try to stay within my field of knowledge - some philosophers have a habit of looking at things through prisms of say, computer science, without really knowing computer science. This in turn makes for a really weak argument, but a nice metaphor to get the point across at best.
Unfortunately, philosophers, unlike writers, don't like to take themselves with a grain of salt (or accept that sometimes "just" dramatization is fine without a deeper meaning) but seem obsessed with their own opinion.
If you can tell, I'm not a huge fan of philosophers 🙃
