"Real Estate Business Cinema"

The business genre is interesting part of the discussions on the #cinetalkies. We are seeing increased interest in discussions related to business cinema. Till now we discussed a couple of themes like Banking, Small Business, Computers etc. Our today's discussion is revolving around the real estate related cinema. In many parts of the world, real estate owners are shady. They do all sorts of non-transparent deals to acquire land and to sell their properties. In many cases the protagonists have acted as the real estate developer and are then the stories revolve around their journey as real estate or a builder.

In Yash Chopra’s Trishul (1978), Amitabh Bachchan grows a construction business from scratch, though only to take revenge on wealthy magnate Sanjeev Kumar, whose illegitimate son he is

Yes it was a great film, before posting about Do Bigha Jamin I was thinking of writing about the same movie but was not able to remember the name of the movie

One film that popped immediately into my mind was GLENGARRY GLENROSS, which I re-watched again recently. Perfect tension build, patient storytelling and execution... it really is an amazing #film. But how could you go wrong with Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Alec Baldwin and Kevin Spacey.

Much like other movies like 12 Angry Men and The Big Kahuna (also with Spacey), Glengarry Glenross shows what can be done with little to no action or visual filler... it takes place in one office, a bar across the road and a few moments in a parked car. Simple. Brilliant.

In the golden days of Bollywood the movies were related to land and real estates. Do Bigha Jamin was one such cinema which was based on the land ownership of agriculturists

Do Bigha Jamin was a historical cinema too. When a poor farmer, fails to repay his debts, a zamindar threatens to seize the land owned by his family. farmer then works as a rickshaw puller in Calcutta to earn money and his struggle is captured in this cinema

Based on the poem written by Rabindranath Tagore, It has paved the way for future cinema makers in the Indian neo-realist movement
