The other side of a Zoo

in Animals11 months ago (edited)

Have you ever wondered who came up with the Zoo idea or why people decided to put different wild animals in one place? Well you’re not alone as I think about the whole Zoo concept most times. When I think about how Zoo came to existence I always think about Noah and the ark in the Bible, or could there be a correlation between the two? Well, I’d have to check it out later and maybe share it with you all another time😃

Am I the only one that overthinks whenever I am in a zoo? I know the fun part of visiting a Zoo is always there but the thought of these wild animals jumping out of their cages and eating me up is always there, Lol don’t blame me, blame the movies I watch 😂 but Heck! I can't help but think in that direction every single time that I am in a Zoo.

Whenever I step into a Zoo it feels like everything I have read and seen on TV shows concerning animals are playing right in front of me and it feels surreal. Whenever I visit the Zoo I learn to always appreciate God's creatures and I can't help but think about how these animals were created and how they adjusted to their present life.

While I also appreciate these wonderful animals I don't fail to applaud zoo keepers as I see zoo keeping as one dangerous job that I or my family members can never do. I have heard and read so many stories of lion and tigers eating zoo keepers because they were terribly hungry. Reading such news can be frightening.

No matter how we look at it, these wild animals are being captured from their natural habitat and are confined in cages, more like kidnapping and some of them are traumatized for years. I love the fact that the Zoo is a place where people go to learn a lot of things but I still fear for the lives of the zoo keepers.

For me Zoo keepers are the true heroes, taking care of these animals against all odds, feeding them, and making sure they are in good condition daily so we spectators can go the next day to see these animals is truly heroic as these people put their lives on the line.

My last visit to the the zoo in my city was a brief one, I and my friend went really late, they were about to close but regardless we had a swell time, watching and giggling at these animals and not me still thinking of the “What ifs” too, sorry, a girl got to be alert you know?

The zoo is a bit old but it has managed to house a good number of animals. Sometimes I can’t help but wonder how these animals are caught and brought to the zoo, how was their resistance managed? like how do they do it? how are these animals taken care of? how are the cages cleaned every day? how are they being fed?

I have so many questions to ask zookeepers and I feel bad already for the zookeeper that I will bombard with these questions as that zookeeper isn't going to go anywhere until he answers all my questions😃

From visiting these animals in the Zoo I got to know their zoological names even though I can’t pronounce most of them.

Since they were about to close I couldn’t check out some of the other animals but regardless it was fun.

Wow, these are beautiful pictures, I love the peacock more, now you're making me want to visit a zoo too.

Hehehehhe when you have the time please do ok?😃

Yes ma'am, I will.

It's been a while I visited the zoo also. Guess I'll make it a date sometime soon for the memory at least

You should my friend and don’t forget to take pictures too okay?😃

I will definitely, thank you 😊

Have you ever wondered who came up with the Zoo idea or why people decided to put different wild animals in one place?

It's because people like you and I don't have the balls to walk into the wild to see these animals so they brought it home for us so we don't only dwell on what we see in books or hear from the media.

The last time I visited the zoo was when I was sixteen. I almost touched a python that was going through ecdysis. If not that the zoo keeper saw me on time and warned against it, I would have put my hand in that hole and caressed its skin. My aunt who took me there called me crazy and I'm like "I guess you can call me that again." It was crazy but I was ready to do it because I learnt somewhere that when the phyton is in this stage of it's life, it's very weak and unable to do anything. I wanted to take advantage of that but sadly, I was caught. 😂

The place on my to-visit list right now is the lekki conservative. Manifesting in a bit.

Lol ohhh this girl😂😂😂😂

The place on my to-visit list right now is the lekki conservative. Manifesting in a bit.

Please my darling whenever you go please be careful okay?😃

Is the place dangerous? Have you been there?

I have also been to the zoo and it was fun. I also share the same phobia as you in thinking what if the animals escape and catches me😂😂.

I believe zoo keepers are trained to do that job, hence preserving their lives.

I loved all the pics you took, it brought back lovely memories.

Yes, they are trained but just the way humans in all their glory become crazy at times how much more these animals? What happens when they become crazy?

This is an exhaustive account of your visit
I have never been to thw zoo and I hope to be kne of these day, I am seriously planning, hehe

When you finally do please don’t forget to have fun to the fullest ok?

Nice.. Is this the Ibadan zoo?

No it’s not

Hmmmm, my idea of adventure hasn't really been directed to visiting the zoo because I too will have the what ifs at both the back and front of my mind, lol.
Zoo is a beautiful place and I twale for the zoo keepers, it's indeed a dangerous job.

#dreemerforlife

Lol I twale for them too oo, those people are super brave!

I have always been a lover of the wild, especially animals. I mean they are creatures satisfied with whatever they have not burdened by achievement like humans. I have a plan to visit the zoo one day but I definitely know areas I won't be visiting. Ever since I read of a zookeeper being killed by a lion in OAU zoo, I don't really feel good about going close to lion cages.

It is not as if I'm too terrified to do so but all sort of thought will definitely run through my mind, who knows what that could make me do.

I would not also want any of my family members to be a zookeeper, I mean imagine being tasked with feeding a lion or crocodile and cleaning their cages. Any little act of ignorance could result to sustaining fatal injuries or death.
