Sunsets in Havana

It's not the place, it's the sunset

What does a sunset mean to you? Have you stopped to think about when was the last one you enjoyed?

Was it a long time ago? Recently?

In Cuba, daylight saving time started a few weeks ago. Now it gets light later in the morning, but it also gets dark later. In your country, this might be normal, but in the Caribbean, with this schedule, we can have light until 8 PM.

Daylight saving time (which will last until around November) allows for more outdoor activities. One of my favorites, along with my partner, is watching the sunsets in Havana.

Although they may not be the best, many say that the sunsets in Havana, especially on the Malecón, have something that captivates you. Is it true?

I’m not the best photographer, but join me for some of the recent sunsets I’ve enjoyed these days.

Cloudy Sunset

Since I started my rotation in Gynecology, I haven’t had much time, and my partner wanted to change that. We decided to take a break and distract ourselves at least one day a week.

The first spot is one of the most beautiful and famous rooftops in the city: the terrace of the Hotel Kempinski.

An old office building and even a bank, it is currently one of the most luxurious hotels in Havana (if not the most luxurious)

In my opinion, it feels a bit discordant with the reality of the country, but that’s another topic.

The reality is that it offers almost a 360-degree view of the historic center of the capital.

My favorite direction will always be towards the Capitol.

That day, the sunset wouldn’t be perfect; it was a cold front day, so we had some clouds, as seen in the picture.

Even so, the Capitol looked even more beautiful—look at that golden dome. An architectural gem.

Not my favorite sunset; that one comes next.

Paseo del Prado

Closer to the Malecón and at the end of the Prado, we find the Hotel Paseo Prado. Another recently constructed hotel.

If in Cuba, we only know how to build hotels. Some not very pretty (like the Torre de K, also known as Iberostar Selection La Havana).

The rooftop of this hotel is my partner's favorite. It’s not very hard to see why.

Look at the image.

From here, you can see buildings like: the new Torre de K, its neighbor the old Havana Libre, the architectural marvel: El Focsa, a bit further the Hotel Nacional, and at the end of the point: the United States Embassy.

All these buildings block the sun, but the image I left is a marvel.

A recommended spot to enjoy in company. A pleasure to be able to enjoy these sunsets so often.

Not from a Hotel

The next sunset isn’t from a hotel, but from a friend's house. Of course, it couldn't be different, facing the Malecón.

I’m not a good photographer, but here the landscape makes the job much easier. Just press the button and see those colors.

There’s not much to add in this image. Just enjoy it.

Second Home

The next one is from my second home: the hospital.

Here we lack a lot, except for spectacular sunsets.

From the hospital windows, at the right hour, you can achieve a very unique combination of colors.

If in the previous one the tones were more pink, in this one they are more orange.

What I like about this photo is that I almost never have time to find the moment to photograph sunsets when I’m in the hospital.

Lately, I realized that I needed to find time to enjoy the little things in life, and this is one of them, so I share it with you.

It's not the place, it's the sunset

Was that the phrase? Well, in this post, it will be.

And to say goodbye, this last one is not a sunset in Havana, but on one of my trips. I don’t remember the place, but the palms make it clear that it’s the Caribbean.

Your photos are spectacular, you want something more beautiful in Havana than the Capitol. And in answer to your question I like sunrises and sunsets, each with its charm. You do well to contemplate them with your partner, they become magical moments of love, don't you think?
It doesn't matter if you are in the hospital, you need them to relieve stress. Happy week to you, a hug. 🤗😘

Sunsets and sunrises have their own magic equally; those little pleasures in life that we sometimes forget to enjoy. And if we have someone special to share them with, it’s even better. The Capitol has no competition

Have a nice week Mamani 🥰

I prefer sunrises alone, I need moments of solitude and this is a great time to meet myself. On the other hand, I don't think these photographs are shitty photographs.

Best regards, @dahpilot.

Your choice is one of the best. I believe that what’s important is to enjoy, never stop enjoying those moments, whether shared or for self-discovery. Enjoy it, as life flies by and sometimes we forget. In the photos, I didn't do much; the magic of sunsets, the Caribbean—there wasn’t much work involved.

It’s a pleasure to read you, my friend. I hope your week is going well
