It's been hot for the past week or so and I don't usually enjoy it much at all; it's typical March weather here though so the heat wasn't unexpected. It's not stopped my nephew and I doing what we'd planned and his visit here for a holiday has been a resounding success so far, which helps me tolerate the heat a little more. He's a cool kid, fun to have around and he always makes me happy.
My nephew, @mrbonkers, lives in the tropical north of Australia where it's hot and humid year-round.
They have two seasons: the wet season, which is the most hot, humid and wet six months of the year, and the dry season which is less wet, hot and humid...although it still rains a lot and is hot and humid in comparison to where I live. The whole northern area (the tope end) of Australia is tropical and for those who live down south like me it can be pretty difficult to get used to it.
It's the same in reverse and coming down here where it's not perpetually humid comes as a bit of a shock to the system for my nephew and he's complained that it's cold on occasion. Bonkers!
With it being so hot we've taken advantage though and have been to the beach a few times and had a lot of water fights in my garden at home.
It's really quite amusing how much fun a kid (and his uncle) can have blasting each other with water guns, the hose and buckets while running around like a couple of idiots. I also find it amusing when he starts complaining about being cold...despite it being not cold...and the fact he wants to continue swimming or water fighting all the same. Kids huh?
I've had a blast with him, there's nothing quite like the laughter and giggling of a little kid having water fights in hot weather, and the time we've spent at the beach playing catch, swimming and building sand castles as the sun sets has been so great also.
He'll be gone soon enough and that's going to make me pretty sad but he's still here at the moment and the fun hasn't stopped, not will it, no matter if it's hot or cold.

When eldest and I were doing our first aid course the trainer made a comment about the weather as part of the introductory ice breaker topics and everyone commented about the heat except for the old guy from up north who said he just about needed a jumper on the lovely 38C or so day it was at the time XD
And MrBonkers complaining about it being cold but insisting on continuiing with the water play reminded me of middle child telling me she was "TOLD!" one time when we were by the river. She came running up for a wrap up in the towel and sitting on my lap to keep warm, and then after warming up promptly jumped back into the water to repeat the process. Definitely a thing some little kids do XD
Yay for fun holidays :D
Kids are funny like that hey? I guess you and I weren't much different.
My girl was saying the other night how amazing it is to hear a kid laugh like that, in the pool, water fighting and such things; she'd been hearing my nephew and I playing and he was laughing like a maniac, unfettered, unbridled and in full joy. A wonderful sound yes?
One of the best.
Kids are usually quite tolerant of weather conditions and fluctuations as long as there is fun to be had. It seems as though @mrbonkers is always up for a good time and is making the most of his time with you.
Another great pic to add to his vacation collection!
He's always good to go. The cool thing is that he's almost as enthusiastic when it comes to school work (homeschooling) his language lessons (is bilingual) and violin practice and his diligence pays off.
He's got a very good start..well rounded and inquisitive plus diligence? Great start indeed! What language does he study?
He speaks English and Japanese. Writes in both also.
Just today I was talking about children and the sea. There are children who scream when they are submerged in sea water, but also children who scream when you pull them out of the water and call them to dry off.
This photo is worth its weight in gold, it is not at all for the community you posted it to 🙂
I would put her in the community (if there was) Happiness, Happiness, Joy.
A happiness community...that sounds like a good one to create! Maybe you should give it a go?
I would like to, but I still don't have enough time (I also lack knowledge), but neither do I have the HP resources to attract/reward all the good people on Hive who would share their moments of happiness with us.
We have something similar here with the Great Lakes and how long it takes them to warm up in the summer. When we go camping we would often be amazed at how willing our friends kids were to swim in early June even though the water temp was quite low. They would scream and holler about how cold it was and then continue to spend several hours swimming anyway!
I reckon I did it as a kid too...something about the water and kids huh?
I'm probably not the best person to ask, I failed swimming class when I was a kid :)
Haha...I wasn't the best either, still not if I'm honest, but can swim enough to get me out of trouble. (I hope)
😀
How great to see them like this! Enjoying each other no matter if it's hot or cold, the important thing is you guys!!! Enjoy every moment!
A good moment indeed.
I know you are really happy, the important thing in life is the moments, create more moments.
What a lovely picture!!
Yep, and a nice night at the beach too.
Very big greetings to both of you (nephew and uncle).Hi @galenkp, that picture reflects very well everything you say in the text. Keep being happy.
Hi mate, I hope you've been having a good weekend.
I am having it, thank you very much.
That’s so cool! Yeah we tend to have dryer heat here in Cape Town, very seldom humid, although the folk from inland will
Say that’s it’s humid because inland is DEFINITELY more dry.
Great that you got to spend time with your nephew!
A good time is being had. :)
Wow, you guys are having so much fun not thinking about the weather, hot or cold. That's so cool my friend, have a nice day.
Indeed.
