Today Republican Presidential Candidate - Vivek Ramaswamy - talked about the need for free-speech reform with regards to government and big tech. Vivek is correct but it's a partial solution, and it also means we are only one election away from, or one crisis used as a pretext - to strangle free speech. **I am not **advocating for politicians or political parties but Vivek's tweet is also an opportunity for our community to inform people about the freedom of decentralized social media on Hive. It should also be a reminder to all of us that centralized systems will always be vulnerable to coercion or pressure.
The SPK Network Team has a new proposal to build additional infrastructure on Hive. As a general principle my instinct is always back proven team who are developing on Hive. Supporting these proposals is a strong signal to developers that Hive is a community that supports building. Cutting to the nuts and bolts - the price tag for this proposal is $390 HBD a day with a total price of ~$95,000 HBD.
The funding for this project will allow the team to do several things - improve the decentralized network built on IFPS, refactor the 3Speak.tv apps to work with SPK more efficiently, to improve the incentives for persons providing hardware for the network, and dozens of other incremental improvements.
The net result of the proposal [if even a fraction of the goals are achieved] will be to make Hive a stronger, more resilient network, and will help sustain the value of Hive for all users.
I strongly encourage everyone to support the proposal, even if the technical details are daunting - the team involved has a solid record of building on Hive, and the daily and total cost of funding the proposal is both reasonable and will have only a minimal impact the Hive Development Fund.
When we think about Free Speech we often approach it from an ideological standpoint, in the digital age - we must consider the technological components that will secure those ideological or philosophical principles.
