Sunday we went to church, this is the Black Nazarene, a life-sized statue of Jesus Christ carrying the cross. It is a significant religious icon in the Philippines. Key facts about the Black Nazarene:
The statue arrived in Manila from Mexico in 1606.
It is enshrined in the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene in Quiapo, Manila.
The statue's dark color is believed to have originated from a fire on the ship that brought it to the Philippines.

Millions of devotees participate in the Traslacion, many walking barefoot as a form of penance.
