I think I need to upgrade my potato again or maybe just get a new one. It's next on my list of things to buy.
I'm not a gamer. My current project is a show called the Drive-In. It's sort of like Adult Swim meets classic MTV with a little bit of pop culture collage, some political satire and social commentary, with a vintage horror vibe. I make the majority of the content myself but also showcase other artists and musicians.
Here's a short piece from one of the episodes
I used to stream on D-Live before they took the money and ran. Then I was on Vimm for a while. I moved away from Steem right before the whole Sun debacle happened and so lately I've been focused on ScrewTube but want to shift back to the blockchain because a lot of the content I want to create is a surefire way to get my whole channel taken down via copyright strikes. The show is in between seasons right now so I'm taking this time to look around for a good dApp to run the next one on.
3speak appeals to me because of the things that are good about it. I was under the impression that the livestreams are converted to hosted videos afterward but it doesn't appear that way... maybe I'm looking in the wrong place? Also, the creator dashboard is a little confusing, and I've been having a hard time finding tutorials on making it work right. If you know of anything like that, please link me.
How did dlive take your money and run? The whole witness voting debacle or what happened?
I really think that 3speak or another video platform that runs on Hive will do really well eventually. So if you're looking for a Dapp that can do it, it's probably the way to go. For how ametuer I am at it, it seemed to run well enough..
As far as the dashboard and the question about if it can be converted to hosted videos afterwards. Give me a bit and I will see what I can find out for you.
PS the show looks pretty cool, I'm going to go and check more out. Hope you decide to try out 3speak, but if you don't let me know where you end up.
A tutorial on running a livestream on 3speak would be super epic!
Yes. YES IT WOULD!
D-Live straight up D-Lied to the Steemians that were co-branding their material with their dApp. They said they were sticking around and encouraged us to promote and support them. Then they took off and moved over to Lino. While they were at it, they were trying to take all our content with them... needless to say, the Steemians weren't having that! It caused a huge rift in the community. Lots of friendships got damaged over it. It sucked!
As for 3speak, if I could just get a handle on the tech side of things, I feel like it could be a great home for the Drive-In on the blockchain. The point of the show is to watch live with a bunch of chatters, kind of like going in a big car with a bunch of friends to an IRL drive-in. That's why I need a place where I can stream the canned show and then host it after the party is over for the night.
Please knock yourself out digging around in the existing playlists. I hope you'll get some good chuckles out of the material. The people I've been collaborating with are stellar tallents! It's been a lot of fun stringing stuff together and I want to keep this ball rolling.
Thanks again for your time on this. I mentioned in a comment on your other post some ideas for the tutorial. I've got to wander off for a few hours but I'll be back later tonight.
So it will let you download your stream afterwards and upload it, but it doesn't do it for you yet. I don't know if that's something they will add later, it's still pretty early in it's infancy though so I'm just surprised it works as good and easy as it does.
As far as a tutorial on the dashboard goes I didn't find anything really. I will make my own maybe in the next few days. What kinds of questions are you hoping to have answered in a tutorial about it?
Oh, that's great news! I don't mind uploading them myself. Not at all. I wouldn't need to download anything because I always record while I stream so I could just start the upload right afterward. But does it create a second hive post when you do that? Or is there a way to just upload the finished vid and then edit the existing "I'm live" post with the new link to the upload? That would be my preference rather than cluttering up my blog with redundant stuff.
I would personally LOVE it if you were to make a tutorial. There's at least one other Hive person I know who's looking for that kind of help (@clivemartin). I found him by going onto Twatter and asking 3speak for some attention. @nathanmars put us in touch. So if there are 2 of us, you know there will be more. I bet the post would do really well!
What I'd like is an onscreen step-by-step of the OBS setup, and then a walkthrough of the dashboard steps for starting and ending a stream. Also it'd be handy to see how to fix output problems mid-stream... like when OBS starts flashing red, my mind goes into dear-in-headlights mode and I can't see the buttons I need to press. If you could maybe record your screen to show the process and narrate as you go along, and then upload that as a video, it would really be helpful!
If there's anything I can do to assist (i.e. some nifty graphics or text overlays to fancy it up a bit) I'd be delighted to take part!
