This is the other scratchpost where I have an active trail camera. Unfortunately, upon installing this camera, I realized it does not adjust the intensity of the IR light. Other, equally cheap cameras do that, but this one doesn’t. It also doesn’t record any audio. To make me further unhappy, it actually uses 10 AA batteries, as opposed to 8 as do other game cams, and that makes recharging batteries an extra chore as I have a charger for 8 batteries so for this one, I need to run the cycle an extra time.
I introduced the first scratchpost I found in a previous post. This one is the second. I installed this new camera there and right away a family of razorback wild boars (Sus Scrofa) turned up at night and went all in on the scratching tree, not only by scratching against it like mad, but also biting it in order to make the surface rougher. Poor tree, but that’s life in the forest.
Unfortunately, the camera overblew the footage with too much IR light, not only draining the batteries faster than normal, but whiting out what would have otherwise been cool footage of the boars using the scratchpost.
Very disappointing. I had to move the camera on a more distant tree even though the original tree was just fr enough to capture the animals with good detail. Moving it to more than twice the distance of the original tree however resulted in a better, not overblown picture, so for the time being my intent is to keep the camera there.
For the compilation of the trail camera videos I used my own guitar solo as background music. It’s my original composition – the first instrumental guitar song I have ever written in whole. It’s a bit fast paced, but I think it went well enough with the footage of the boars scratching the hell out of their itchy furs on that tree. The song was performed and recorded live before a live audience. There is no studio recording of it.
