Barn Sparrows Look Much Nicer from Above

The barn swallows (Hirundo rustica) are migratory birds who are used being around people so we tend to see them often during the warmer time of year. But being wild birds, we usually only get to see what they look like from below.

This year, after Barn Swallows returned from the migration to the tropics, I got a few rare opportunities to film them up close from above. They landed on the drainage pipe below my room, so now it’s roles reversed - I get to see them from up high.

And I got to say – they look much nicer from above. The sparkling gloss of their coat feathers which take on neon colors in the sun, the red patch under and above their beaks contrasted with the black in front of their eyes… just beautiful.
