I had the great pleasure of interviewing Dietrich Ayala (@dietrich) and Michelle Lee (@mishmosh) about their work on IPFS, Filecoin, and LibP2P at Protocol Labs. Talking to visionaries such as Dietrich and Mosh, I get very excited about everything that technology will make possible in the coming decades, and I applaud the vision behind these projects.
We covered:
- What is IPFS? What is Filecoin? What is LibP2P?
- Some easy misconceptions about IPFS (ie you don't upload files to IPFS)
- Some of the use cases that currently exist for IPFS
- Some of the future goals that guide the developement of these technologies
- IPFS role in NFTs
- The state of browser support for IPFS
- The importance of trust and provenance in the HTTP-based world, vs trustless content addressable data in the IPFS world
