I got a new laptop recently, which has 8 GB ram - will it be possible to run a node there ? What are the incentives ?

If your laptop is online 24/7 (99%+ of the time), runs linux and has a public IP it will be possible to run a node.

There are no incentives in place yet. But that is something that will be added in some fashion soon.
