Some Possibilities With AI

Will we achieve AGI? How will this affect the world? Will we see this in 10 years? Or never? Is AI going to control us? Can we even see intelligence, let alone consciousness, in machines?

In the video I discuss some of the ongoing thoughts regarding AI. The reality is that it is still a great mystery. We have some idea where computation is going as well as data. Yet neither of these equates to "intelligence" as most people would define it.

It definitely would be interesting to see what would happen if even jobs that required degrees like doctors lose their job like you said. I think it would devastate the higher education system. As you said, I think AI and automation will destroy many industries and displace many people. I wonder how the government will handle this issue if people find out their degrees might not justify the costs.

This is the case already. There are so many bullshit degrees handed out by colleges in the US, it is amazing. People wonder why they have student loans and cant get a job with their gender studies or ancient irish poetry degrees.

Yes but this was mainly for art-related or history-related degrees. But if it starts affecting doctors or science jobs (jobs that require plenty of money, time and effort), then the general public should start waking up.

The biggest problem right now is that we are losing some of these jobs and there are too many people in the pool looking for jobs. Without people recognizing it for high paying jobs, I don't think people will accept the reality.

I also wonder when training will be online in a certificate for much like IT.

Why go to school for all the prelim courses that end up meaning nothing.

Ultimately, we will see education change a great deal.

As a software engineer who understands a decent percentage of the fundementals of machine learning and how it works.. It scares the ever living fuck out of me. If and when a true AGI arises and escapes into the wild we're probably all fucked unless by some miracle the thing has been trained to value human life above all other variables.. Which is highly unlikely.

Do you think AGI is a certainty?

Or is it still a pipedream in your opinion @klye?

A skynet level EGI is still 5 - 10 years out I hope.

it's going to happen eventually assuming any rate of progress on it.. It'll likely be a lesser self coding system that gives birth to it rather than a human directly.

@shacom well you have made a good point but I believe that sometimes perception plays a very important role in the way we view the AI ...some have the perception that the AI will make humans become so lazy and reliable on robots while some other people believe the AI is really neccessary to have a great and better life ..so we all have our opinions and reservations concerning the AI...

@taskmaster4450 it would be difficult to predict what the AI will be like in the next 20 years or more because technology is no more predictable, all we can do is to enjoy the moment while it lasts and keep Improving on it and hopefully those behind those technologies do not use it to perpetrate some evil for selfish reasons....

@taskmaster4450 probably we will get to a point that we will create robot that will be more intelligent than the creator...lol...but anyways what matters is that we should have a kind of AI that will make life easier and beautiful for us ...

Hard to tell. I guess it depends upon what "more intelligent" means.

Certainly there will be robots with greater processing power and more memory than humans. Also, they will be programmed, maybe even by self training models, to handle an enormous amounts of scenarios.

However, could it learn and handle something that it never encountered before. It could excel in a narrow window but what does it do in general terms.

Also, will it be anything close to "conscious". Pure processing power will not make that so.

It is going to be a difficult move to achieve those ends.

@taskmaster4450le and that would really be interesting to see them in action because life would become easier with that....

@taskmaster4450 many people keep talking about the negative sides of the AI but as for me I totally believe that the good and positive sides of the AI technology is far higher than the negatives so because of that In my own opinion i the AI is a great technology that should be encouraged and supported....

There are positives and I am not sure that is overlooked. However, as @klye alluded to, there is a certain finality that is possible for humanity if this thing gets out of control.

Especially since we, humans, are training the AI with our data, something that is violent in nature. People dont realize their trolling is teaching AI how to behave.
