Culture isn't just something static that we inherit from our ancestors. It’s a living breathing relationship between people and how we live our lives. History, tradition, nationality, and faith only provide a starting point.
Some people decide to continue a tradition. Some choose to abandon it. Others decide to adjust it to reflect their personal values and invite new participants.
These friends decided to continue dancing and drinking with strangers at the station after the Sumida Kawachi Ondo festival finished. This is what I love about Tokyo.
