Hello, Hivers! It's makiyumee here and I am back with a new blog. It's the start of another school year and this time, I will be enrolling in my final year of college, and that's my fourth year!
July isn't just another month full of rainy days because this month also means the opening of schools for student enrollment. The anticipation is present in the air as each student prepare themselves for another year of learning. On the day of my enrollment, the loud sound of my alarm clock made me bolt out of my bed as I remembered that I was supposed to be going to school early. Despite the slight annoyance of having to wake up before the sun rises, I lazily turned off my alarm before going straight to bath. I did my morning routines first before preparing my requirements that are needed for the enrollment.
When I was done with everything, I went back to the kitchen where my parents were eating their breakfast. With my bag and my requirements in hand, I told them that I was going to be leaving for school and they gave me a smile and a nod, telling me that I was good to go and so, I left with a determined look on my face. This is going to be a tough year; I am sure of it. This won't be the same as before because this year, I am going to be a 4th year college student and the nervousness was making me overthink about some things that were starting to sound absurd. I just couldn't help thinking about how this school year will come out.
I walked towards the main street where the tricycles, jeeps, and buses would pass. I waited for a few minutes until a tricycle called me and I told him where my destination was before he let me inside his ride. During the ride, there were other passengers, and these were high school students who also had their Brigada Eskwela and enrollment. When the driver dropped them off at their school, it was my turn next to be dropped off on my destination which was Cebu Normal University – Medellin Campus.
The ride to my school wasn't long and it wasn't short either since the tricyle driver was just using his average speed during the travel. As I sat and waited for my ride to arrive at the campus, I couldn't help but look outside and admire the familiar road that I always take when I go to school and also go home from school. After spending countless of days confined at home, I realized just how much I missed the sight of the path that I always traveled when going and coming from school. The way the sun would shine and set on the trees along the road and the houses that I would pass by each place has its own memory inside my head.
When I arrived at the campus, I paid my travel fare to the driver and walked towards the gates of Cebu Normal University – Medellin Campus with a nervous smile on my face. This was it, I was going to finally enroll myself and I couldn't help but feel a bit excited and anxious. The instant I stepped through the campus gates, the large and glorious letters spelling out the school's name greeted me, soaring overhead like a beacon of knowledge and hope.
My heart was pounding inside my chest, full of excitement and longing. It was as if the letters were alive, pulsing with the history and spirit of the many students who had passed through these gates before me. The familiarity of the gateway appeared to expand up into a universe full of possibilities. The familiar aroma of newly cut grass combined with a delicate hint of flowering flowers fluttered through the air, bringing me with a sense of freshness. The trees planted across the pathway flowed gently in the breeze, their leaves whispering secrets from the past, stories of endurance, friendships formed, and ambitions accomplished.
I was glad that I arrived early and that there were only a few students before me because I'm actually not fond of crowded places and I know getting enrolled is not as quick as a lightning flash. I sat on one of the chairs that were aligned for the students to use during the enrollment. As I was waiting, my classmates slowly filled the other seats, and this was where our conversations began. Of course, enrollment doesn't only mean getting registered as a student in a school, it also means catching up with your classmates that you haven't seen since the start of vacation. Sure, social media's always another way of communicating despite the huge distance but it's different when you get to talk with the person you want to see in personal. It's like nothing is stopping you from talking, there are no barriers and no limits.
As we all talked and caught up to the latest gossips that we missed, it was finally my turn. I presented my requirements to our teacher, and she checked each one meticulously, leaving nothing untouched and unseen. It took a little time, but I understand why she was double checking everything. It was to avoid problems and misunderstandings which I was glad for since I also did not want to have problems before classes start.
After my teacher checked my requirements, I proceeded to the second step, and it was to check and receive my schedule for the first semester. Our registrar asked which section I was from, and I told him I was from 3A before, so he gave me the schedule for 4A. When I got my schedule, I went to the third station and got my identification card validated for the first semester.
After the student in-charge checked my identification card, my schedule, and my grades, she then gave me the famous orange sticker that symbolizes that I have finally enrolled myself this school year. I stuck the familiar orange sticker behind my identification card and with a satisfied smile on my face, I was finally enrolled as a fourth-year student in Cebu Normal University – Medellin Campus. Yey! Finally, my final year in college is here. I hope I can survive this and receive my diploma soon. I know it will be challenging but I know if I ask help from above and be brave enough to face each challenge, I know I can do it.
