I went to the medical center to undergo a medical examination. As a student, it is really required for us, especially for college students. As a first-year college student, we are required to undergo some medical examinations, such as a chest x-ray, drug test, complete blood count (CBC), and lastly, the medical certification.
It was a bit costly, but thankfully, the mayor of our city gave us a 50% discount. We were so happy when we heard that because it would reduce my expenses and save money as well.
I went there early and arrived at 8 a.m. There were many students lined up to undergo medical examinations. I went there alone, and since I am an introverted person, I struggle when it comes to communicating with other people, especially if I don't know them.
I gathered the courage to ask someone there what to do, and luckily, I found someone who explained it to me clearly. I thanked her and followed her instructions.
I went to the treasurer's office to pay for my medical examination. You need to pay first before undergoing any medical exams. Before the examination, they will ask if you have the receipt to ensure that you have paid.
Once they confirm it, they will give you a form to fill out with your information and hand back for preparation.
Next, I went to the x-ray facility to get a request form for the x-ray examination. While there, someone approached me and asked where to get a request form, so I showed her and explained how to fill it out.
Later on, she asked if I could accompany her to guide her through the process because it was her first time undergoing a medical examination, and she was not familiar with the facilities.
I agreed and accompanied her until she was done. After that, I went to the laboratory center, where we had our complete blood count (CBC) and submitted the receipts for everything we had paid.
For the drug test, you need to bring your national ID and give it to them before they provide the form. However, I did not bring my national ID because I wasn't informed that it was required, and neither were the other students.
They said if you did not bring your national ID, you could use your voter certificate. Since I didn't have it with me, I had to go to the local office, which was not far from the medical center and within walking distance.
After I got my voter certificate, I immediately handed it over to the people in charge at the drug testing facility, and they gave me the form. There were many forms to fill out for the drug test, and it was essential to be careful when filling out the information.
After that, they gave us a small bottle to collect our urine for the drug test. They then asked for our names and scanned each of our fingers three times.
Since we had completed all the examinations, all we had to do was wait for the results. Although it took a few hours to get the results, we decided to have lunch first. We waited for almost four hours to get all the results.
After that, we lined up for our physical examination, where they checked our blood pressure, temperature, weight, and height.
Then, we lined up again to get the medical certification, recording all the physical examination details. The final step to complete our college requirements was to have our medical certification signed by the doctor.
I’m so happy that everything was completed in just one day, so I didn’t need to return another day. Although the process was exhausting and a bit tiresome, especially waiting for the results, it was worth it.
It is really hard for an introvert person like us to approach other people especially when we have to communicate. I really feel you at that time . I'm glad you overcome your weakness and so brave to approach someone and ask for directions and clarifications.
@juralyrondina you're absolutely right, As an introvert, we understand how challenging it can be to approach others, especially in unfamiliar situations. It takes a lot of courage to step out of our comfort zones.
Thank you for sharing your experience with the medical examination process. It’s great to hear that the mayor’s discount helped reduce the costs, making it more manageable for students like you. Best of luck with your studies and future endeavors!
