To whom much is given, much is expected: Reminiscing 8 years of my life after university.

To whom much is given, much is expected: Reminiscing 8 years of my life after university.

I opened my Facebook account this morning and behold, I was reminded of the post I did 8 years ago. I opened it, it was the photos I uploaded on my sign-out day in the university. My greatest worry was that it had already been 8 years. I was surprised because it was as if it happened yesterday. I scrolled through all the photos and I was amazed at how life is running faster. The world is on a high pedestal and if you fail to identify with this reality, you will be left behind. I saw a good number of friends I related within school that I don't even know their whereabouts today. Indeed the race and issues about life and survival are personal. In the course of fulfilling destiny, you may not need the people you began life with. That's why it is wrong to be so obsessed with people because, in the long run, they might not be necessary anymore, they might not need you as well. So Facebook brought back a memory of 8 years ago. Permit me to share some lessons this has taught me about life because you might also learn from it.

Life after school is a different ball game
The reality of life will hit you differently after your university education. After school I realized that the financial support I had from my parents began to swindle, hence I didn't wait for anyone to tell me that I had to start looking for my bearings. After school no one cares about you, it is assumed that you're an adult. You don't need anyone to tell you this, you will know within you that you're an adult. Hence, you should be able to take care of yourself.

The race for survival is personal
I said this earlier, after 8 years in school, among the people who I relate closely with, it's just one that I am still relating with. Others have gone to get a life elsewhere. Hence the lesson here is that we all have a different future to fulfill. Don't let anyone influence you by their lifestyle, because at the end of it all, race is personal.

We have different calendars
A close friend of mine is gainfully employed with good pay, some of my friends too are married with children, some are living the best of their lives, and some are yet to find their feet. I have realized that we have different calendars and times for manifestation. No one is a failure, it's just a matter of time.

Going to school is not a gateway to employment: We have this belief that we should go to school so that at the end of it all, we can be gainfully employed in an organization. 8 good years have passed, and I am still unemployed. Many of my colleagues are in the same shoes. Some have created jobs for themselves while some are working. Education is for knowledge and character molding. Jobs might not come, but education will help you to survive.

As the only person in my family who has been to the university, a lot has been spent on my head via university education and a lot has been expected of me by every member of my family, for now, I might not meet up to their expectations after 8 years, but that doesn't mean that it's the end of the journey. They might look up to me as the one to take them out of poverty and the one to uphold the family in high esteem. Their expectations will not be cut off because to whom much is given much is expected.
