Teaching Beyond Words: My ESL Journey

Hello there again, dear Hivers, today we will talk about my journey in being an ESL teacher, and how my journey was in ESL teaching.

So last July 2024 I received a chat from my senior that there is work that is hiring, but far in my hometown. But since I have no work and things to do at home, I decided to invite my friends to work as an ESL teacher. At first I was not sure about my decision, but I decided to try it. So the next day I told my friends to apply at that said company, but we really thought we were only passing a resume, but we were wrong because they interviewed us directly and they let us take an examination.

The teacher who was interviewing us told us that they will only text us if we are hired already. We didn't expect that we would be hired because we were not ready for that, but luckily we were hired, and we will start our training on the other day. We were so happy about that because it was our first time being hired as teachers since my course is not related to teaching. We also experience training to train us on how to formally teach the child and how we guide them on their lesson.

After a week, we already started teaching. My friends have their own rooms, and while I was a subteacher, if there was a teacher who would not attend their class, I would sub them to teach their student. And my work is in the office, helping the office staff to do their work and also helping them to log the other teachers attendance. I also teach sometimes, and I also have a group class like PE class and Guitar class.

WHAT IS ESL?

ESL stands for English as a Second Language. It refers to the practice of teaching English to people whose first language is not English.

Some of our students are Korean, Chinese, and Taiwanese. They have different attitudes, but they have respect for their teachers, they only came here if it was summer or winter.

The most exciting part here is when it was shopping time. This time we will guide our students in their shopping, but we have our rules to follow if we are with them. It was nice because you can really talk to them even in a short time. And it was such a great experience for the teachers.

This experience was so nice, and you can really love your work, and even if we know that you were only a summer camp teacher, we really loved them until it was time to say goodbye with our students. Though it was a very short time to be with them, we can't forget them. Since I'm only a subteacher, I don't usually interact with students, but I have my favorite students here. Giving gifts to them was so nice; even though it was a small thing, they really appreciated it. My favorite students were so cute, and I wish to see them next camp.

These children were so unforgettable, as were the teachers, the bond we have together, and the happy memories we have in our workplace.

This work was unexpected, but it was so fun. Though it's only 2 months to be with them, it was such a great experience. Teaching was not my passion, but since I entered this workplace, I already love teaching and giving learning to my students.

It's amazing to see how you've learn love teaching, even though your course isn't related to it. Teaching young individuals from different countries can be challenging because of our differences in terms of culture, but you’ve shown it’s possible. I’m glad to see you appreciating and enjoying the beauty of teaching and sharing knowledge, Miss @renacris 😻

yes, though it is so hard to have their attentions and you're not sure if they like your teaching, at least I did it

proud of you @renacris for imparting your knowledge to the kids 😍
