The waves: a descriptive view

Hello to all members of the Hive community. I shared this position with you to give a simple description of the waves that make up the school program I teach in high school. This concept seems abstract to our students, but in truth, it is present in several areas that I will cite a few.

1) Electromagnetic waves

On the one hand, these waves have facilitated technological communication and its progression, which translates into the transport of information. Plus for medical diagnostics.

On the other hand, these effects are sometimes destructive, and this is based on scientific research which assumes that they can be the cause of cancers (use of laptops for example).

2 ) Mechanical waves

  • Seismic waves:

their origin is a vibratory movement of the rocks at the bottom of the earth and is manifested by earthquakes at the surface.

  • Mechanical wave on water surface: Water waves.

They result from a rapid movement of a large volume of water, its origin can be an underwater earthquake or wind. This event sometimes causes huge damage such as the tsunami.

  • Sound waves.

These waves are a communication tool for some animals.

For man, he uses these waves in a sophisticated device: Sonar, which allows the location of objects under water for the purpose of carrying out marine mapping, listening to noise in the case of wars.

Modern cars also use sound waves to detect their surroundings.
