Ooooooooh now you're touching on a very interesting topic! I was listening to an add here on local radio about the government offering "rewards" to the public for reporting illegal dumping. In the same add, they threaten would-be perpetrators with a fine OR jail time. Just like with traffic offences. So the bottom line is, if you can afford it, you can just pay your crimes away, and to me, that is just so wrong on so many levels.
Back to our topic, no of course, guilty till proven innocent would never work. This is not the middle ages (even if it feels like it). Besides. That would DEFINITELY be a human rights violation and if I was really behind that, I'd be a massive hypocrite. Thanks for that link by the way. I have never read that bill of rights properly before.
I ran across that link completely by accident while researching for a post about free speech/Web3/dectralization. Bookmarked it immediately, lol.
The law enforcement and justice system here in the states needs a major overhaul. Especially at the federal level. Needs to be simplified. The state and local levels are nothing more than revenue grabbers no matter the size of the city or state. The laws themselves are not written with public safety in mind. They are written for the sole purpose of keeping those in power and well funded. The democrats have been talking about "packing the court" for awhile now. Which means adding more judges. Congress holds the power to change the SCOTUS. But that's only a temporary change. A constitutional convention would be more permanent. But they know they won't get that because irl Americans are more conservative leaning than what is portrayed in the media. And they know it.
The vast majority of Americans could care less about government. And the ones that do are very passionate on both sides of the aisle.
It's disturbing how polarized we are. Left or right, black or white, male or female, liberal or conservative, capitalist or socialist. The politicians love it though. If we're too busy being angry with each other, we won't have time to be angry with them. And you're quite right. There's a massive gap in the middle that should represent the middle ground, but it doesn't. This massive gap is filled with apathy and ignorance which is as dangerous as people fuelled with any political agenda. What a waste. Thank you for this incredibly engaging conversation. I feel like I'll walk away from it with a much wider perspective and a greater understanding of the big picture.
Thank you. That's exactly what I was going for. People need to come together and realize the bigger picture that is being distracted from us. That's not just an American thing. It's a global thing.
I honestly want people to be in control ofbtheir own lives. They are the ones who have to live it. Not the elites in positions of power.
