Introduction

I have been on-boarding lots of new users on Hive because I believe that HIVE is the greatest social network and blogging platform that reward content creators. As they join, I do tutorials for them to help each person get a firm footing on Hive. Among other things, I explain to newbies how to engage and connect with great minds on Hive. One way to do this is through chatting with friends using the discord app. Before i explain this part of how to use Discord, here are some of the people that have joined through my marketing efforts.:

How to chat with friends and with communities!

Discord is a very useful app for anyone that wants to build great relationships on Hive. It is a chatting application like Telegram and Whatsapp. But it will be unfair to compare Discord with any other application because it comes packed with lots of amazing tools that Whatsapp or Telegram do not have.

Through discord, you could chat with friends as well as with an entire community called a Server. So in this tutorial, you will learn how to chat with individuals as well as communities through discord. Asumming you have downloaded the app, registered and have joined some servers already, check the steps below to start chatting with friends.

How to chat with a friend

Note: You must have accepted a friend request from your friend before they will appear on your friends list. I will use the android version of the app to demonstrate the lessons

1. After you open discord, click this Icon to see your friends. (Check image above).
2. Here are your list of friends. To chart directly with anyone of them, click on there username.
3. This is where you can chat directly with the friend whose username you clicked. This bar is where you can type your messages and send to start the private chat with your friend.

4. This column is where the communities (called Servers) you joined are listed. Click anyone of them to enter the Sever. (Check Image above).

5. Once inside the sever, these are channels, which are like different rooms inside the server for different purposes. In this screenshot, click this arrow to enter the "Create Instant Invite" link. The link created here could be used to invite your new friends to join the server.
The other channels serve many other purposes. For example, the "start_here_useful_links" is a channel where new users can go to get information about community rules. Other channels on the server are used for different purposes. You can have an idea of each channel purpose through its name.

6. Most severs have a "General" channel where you can join community group chats. Click here to open and join the general chats area.

7. Once inside the "general" channel, click here to type and send your messages. You can join any discussions you met, or initiate a new conversation. Your messages will appear along that of others as you type and send them here.
