"A coward is liable of being killed by a falling leaf." You probably have heard that wise sayng countless times, but do you make sense of it? A falling leaf cannot harm anyone, can it? Of course, it cannot. But someone that is always battle with fear may suffer dire consequences even when the object of fear may not exist. Fear is like a prisoner that keeps people bondage to their own feelings. Many people have been unable to conquer their fears, hence they are always kept in a shell so to say.
People are afraid of too many things. A long list of things that people are afraid of is endless. Some are afraid of physical objects and places like fear of water, height, depth, fire, cramped spaces, etc. Some people are afraid of tomorrow. There is widespread fear of the unknown, and other many forms of fear. Of all these phobias, there is one that you need to work on yourself, or help a friend overcome. That is fear of leaving one's comfort zone.
Afraid of leaving your comfort zone? Here are 3 ways to try stepping out
Many people are completely afraid of leaving their comfort zone because - they have been comfortable there. This kind of fear makes them do business as usual. They are afraid to try out new things and are always against any form of innovation. If you battle this type of fear, it will make you unable to try new things. But when you step out, amazing things happen. Try these 3 suggestions:
1. Speak to strangers: Yes, talking to strangers wil gradually ease your fear of meeting people you dont know before. Do not avoid them. Start out with a warm smile and try to feel relaxed. Ask about simple things like how their day has been and what they are up to. When you are about to strike up and maintain conversations with strangers, you build confidence.
2. Take up the center stage: Agree to do what everyone else is running away from. Its likely that they are also wishing to remain in their own comfort zone. So accept tasks or work that you and many others naturally run away from. As you accomplish them, you gain more confidence.
3. Measure growth: As you accomplish any tasks you had usually run away from, record the progress and if possible, reward yourself. The more small tasks you fulfill, the more confidence grows. Gradually, you will eventually feel at ease leaving your comfort zone. Try it out, maybe this will work for you.
When you work hard to conquer your fears, you will eventually win.
