Golden Hour (Seoul Photography)

Today I want to share a collection of golden hour (the hour or two just before sunset) photos that I took a few months ago. These photos were taken from one of the many bridges that cross the enormous Han River in the centre of Seoul.

I was hoping for a purple or red sunset but instead was met by an orange sky. While perhaps not as stunning as I had hoped, the orange gave a very warm feeling to the city (I can promise it was not at all warm on the bridge...).

As you will likely notice, a lot of these photos feature planes. That is because Gimpo Airport, one of Seoul's airports (not the biggest, that is located on an island an hour out of the city in Incheon) is located in the background near the mountains. Since there was a lot of air traffic in the area, it made for some nice photo opportunities!

As the sun progressed further, the skies turned from their previous warmer yellowy-orange to a deeper orange that began to border red.

This picture was taken more zoomed-out, perhaps near 100mm. It shows more of the surrounding area and particularly the area around the subject (the building cluster in the distance). The ripples on the water also show just how windy it was that day.

A before and after panorama. The first one (above) was taken about 30 minutes before the second one (below). Which scene do you prefer? Personally, I like the earlier photo because of the gold reflection on the buildings on the left of the photo.

The final photo from this set is from the right-hand side of the above images. You can see the highway that runs alongside the Han River, and this photo was taken next to the highway on the bridge that crosses the river.

The Han River has highways bordering it on both sides for nearly its whole length in Seoul. For this reason, it sees thousands (if not millions) of cars every day. Of course, a lot of people have to cross the river on their daily commute, and as such there are many subway lines that also run over the river.

I hope you enjoyed this small set of images and got to see a bit more of the 'real' Seoul. It's very easy to find pictures of Gangnam, Myeongdong, and the other very modern and wealthy areas. However, there is much more to Seoul than just those locations!

Thank you for reading!
