The unseen side of my daily walk: 5/5 Go colorblind

in PHOTOGRAPHY [DAC]5 years ago (edited)

The 5th and final day of my little challenge and the theme is Go colorblind. I hadn't taken pictures looking at things in b&w since my days at the school of photography, about a million years ago and it was unexpectedly amusing!

I remember that the first semester we had to learn to see the world not as it is but as it would be on the picture we were about to take. So if we were using a very wide aperture we had to see the blurring background, if we were using b&w film we had to see everything in b&w and so on.

The point was to know what you are shooting before you develop your film. I remind you that I studied before the digital era when everything happened in an analog, slow and in many aspects delightful way.

Today all this may sound old fashioned and obsolete. After all why not look on the screen of your camera, phone, tablet or whatever devise you are using instead of training your eye to do the job?

Myself I used to be very good at that but after 15 years of using a digital camera and peeking in the screen, I didn't thought I could do it any more. So I started this day by putting a monochrome profile on the camera and checking how things look.

But after a while it came to me. I didn't had to look in the screen anymore to know how the scene I was looking will be in b&w, I knew. And let me tell you this is a huge satisfaction or at least it was for me!

After our walk in the fields with the dog was over I took some extra time to wander around the village for some more pictures, carried away by the nostalgic feeling of the monochrome images and my student years memories...

And since it is the last part of this game of mine let me do a recap for those who missed the previous posts.

The concept is to illustrate pictures that are around us every day but we normally do not see. Either because we are in a hurry or just because we don't look at the right place or even the right angle!

I divided it in 5 sub-themes which all together will illustrate the unseen side of my daily walk!

The 5 sub-themes are:

  1. Look closely
  2. Look up
  3. Look down
  4. Change your height
  5. Go colorblind

To make it a little more challenging I took the shots in 5 days in a row, with the same fixed lens (50mm), on the dogs walk that is pretty much the same every day and more or less on the same time!

The first day I looked closely to the texture of doors, walls and beams.

The second day was foggy and drizzling but nevertheless I looked up.

The unseen side of my daily walk: 2/5 Look up

The third day turned out to be a little more challenging than I originally thought as I was looking down.

The forth day was a piece of cake compared to the previous two!

That's it from me. I had a great time those 5 days and I might as well repeat it at some point!

Oh, there is something so special about black and white and seeing things for how they are. Thanks for sharing!

Yes, b&w is very special indeed and it gives you a very "clean" perspective of the world away from the color interference.

awesome pictures!

Thanks :)

I do love black and white so very much. Definitely my favourite images are all black and white. I love what you've done with them! Really very awesome. I should be finishing up mine soon!

Thank you, it has been 5 very fun days :)

An interesting way to capture the journey but I'm curious why the cat seems so unfriendly. 😎

Ha ha, she was sleeping and I woke her up :)
Thank you for stopping by!

You're welcome.
Then it will happen quite often because I heard cats sleep away 3 quarters of their lives.
