Three days ago, walking outside, one could see only green grass (or a brown blanket of last year's dead leaves) - you had to look carefully to find some dirty melting snow!
We even ventured into a little trip on Sunday with the whole family, to the park on the edge of town (there was a fair amount of snow and ice there).
I entitled the blog with a dozen photos from that walk "Farewell to Winter" - and to say the truth, I was a bit hasty here :)
In any case, this farewell turns out to be very, very, very gradual, and usually it lasts until the beginning of May - when the ice drifts along the Neva River.
Anyway, three days ago a strong blizzard hit the city. It lasted intermittently for two days - and now the city again is covered with a 5-6 cm layer of snow. So, the first thing I did was to dress warmly; and secondly, I armed myself with a macro lens and went to check how were doing the snowdrops in the neighboring yard. They are still alive and not giving up! although their stems have drooped a bit, and some of them now are almost invisible under a layer of fresh snow. Of course, we'll see how long this frost will last - and what will happen when the snow melts.

I am not 100% sure what I see in this capture, but look at the plant in the right corner - I think I see some kind of insect! a worm, a larva sleeping numb in a self-made transparent hammock. What do you think?
I love seeing living creatures warming up their surroundings, melting the snow. Do you see this little hole that has appeared in the snow around the snowdrop?

Еще три дня назад выйдя на улицу, можно было видеть только зеленую траву (или коричневое одеяло из прошлогодних мертвых листьев) - а снега приходилось поискать! Мы даже поехали всей семьей в воскресенье в парк на краю города (где снега и льда оставалось порядочно). Прошлый пост с дюжиной фоток с прогулки по Елагиному острову я назвал 'Прощание с зимой' - и немного поспешил :) во всяком случае, прощание получается ооооочень постепенным. Оно обычно растягивается вплоть до начала Мая - когда на реке Неве происходит ледоход...
Так или иначе, три дня назад на город обрушилась сильная метель, она продолжалась с перерывами два дня - и сейчас город снова замело 5-6см слоем снега. Поэтому я первым делом оделся потеплее ... а во-вторых, вооружился макро-объективом и пошел проверить как чувствуют себя подснежники в соседнем дворе. Они все ещё живы и не падают духом! хотя их стебли немного поникли, и некоторых из них почти не видно под слоем свежего снега. Посмотрим конечно, долго ли продержится мороз - и что будет когда снег растает. Хотя пока он таять не собирается...

Дочь тоже недавно прислала фото со снегирем. :) Осенью кормушку соорудили (бутыль пластиковая на 5 литров). На даче были зимой не регулярно. Счастливая, что ОН прилетел :)
а вот подснежников рядом со мной не найти. почва не та.
на родине их было много в лесу. Но у нас это всё же "ветреница".

Very nice photos, hopefully some of the flowers will bounce back. Late season snows can kill off some of those beautiful flowers. It is cool how they generate enough warmth to melt away some surrounding snow!
