Palmers Island
In Yesterdays Wednesday walk post I share a shot that showed Palmers island, and in a post a few days ago I shared shots of the Palmers Island Lighthouse, for this post I am going to focus on the island.
I got this first shot of it recently the light was just right and I was happy with I got

Most of the other shots from this post are from last year when my wife and I waded through the little channel and onto the island, when I started preparing this post I realized it is something I must do again, but I have to remember to wear crocs to get across to the island, at low tide its very shallow to cross and sometimes even clear to walk across without getting into the water, but i have bene to lazy to take off my walking shoes and walk across carrying them LOL, so thats on my todo list to do again, so here are some shots from last fall

This island was discovered before the arrival of the pilgrims, English explorer Bartholomew Gosnold first surveyed the 6-acre island during his exploration of New Bedford Harbor in 1602.
the Island was named after William Palmer an early Old Dartmouth settler
The Island was used as an internment camp for Native Americans during the war of King Phillip around 1675, and later as a garrison during the Revolutionary war.
And then in the 19th Century a Hotel and an amusement park were built there, so the island has a very interesting history.
Sadly during the 1938 Hurricane all the structures on the island were washed away.

As you can see in the previous shot there is a path leading into and up on the island where there are some nice views including of the Lighthouse.

And a last shot as I returned back off the island on that visit

Your photos are always astonishing! I especially like the last one. It looks almost like a painting. Excellent!
Thats such a kind comment and truly appreciated, I do different style sin my editing sometimes and that last one I went for a more painterly feel ;)
Oh, I see! Although I'm watching your work for a couple of years by now, I always thought, "It must be that "crazy" camera of his." Never thought that you are doing some editing too. Please, don't blame me as I am just a photography lover and a terrible amateur when it comes to taking shots by myself. 😊
Of course I don’t blame you
I am sure many think that
All my photos I post are edited in some way
Have a great day
You really should go there more often :) Doesn't anyone live on the island?
Not anymore, its a small deserted Island, I do plan one day to go there with clogs and go out onto the island again :)
Why are you waiting? Take the road less traveled :)

This place looks awesome! Nice shots as always!
It is a cool little island I must go out on it again soon
That's a lovely island, JJ, and it is a little bit bigger than the one in the pond ;) so it might be a good place to moor the catamaran and pitch the tent 😁
I like the views to the lighthouse and the last shot is my favourite here 😊
!invest_vote
Thanks my friend and yes definitely bigger than the one on the pond and easier to sail to lol
I think it would be big enough to be a nice home for me ... and maybe my wife 😉
Well they had a hotel on there once so yes plenty of room
I need only a tent with electricity and internet ... and maybe a thick sleeping bag in wintertime 😂
Definitely need a thick sleeping bag in winter but then again your a hardy Austrian so maybe not that Thick
Haha, yeah, but the older I get the softer I become and since quite a while I enjoy it more to see the cold weather from the inner side of the window 🤣

Lovely scenery.
Thank you
You're welcome dear
What a lovely view of the island! I was hoping we would get there soon. The first shot shows off the lush natural beauty of this lush little piece of land. It is little places like that that I like to explore and get to know better.
The lighthouse is an added bonus to its attraction.
You are to be applauded for bringing in the beauty, every single day.
Thanks so much I personally am glad the buildings on there are no longer there and it’s a natural piece of nature
It really enhances the visits there!
Ohh yes for sure
Nice looking island.
Thanks kindly your support is appreciated
Have a great day
The lighting on these are superb. Just gorgeous. Thank you for taking me there, I can taste the magic of dawn when I look at that first shot. 💖
Such a kind comment is truly appreciated
Have a great day
Oh my, what a magical place. Whether by light of day or pre-dawn light, it is absolutely beautiful. I love that second photo. It looks like a place where elves or gnomes might reside.
Thanks kindly
That island does have a magical feel to it
Have a great day
You mentioned wading to the island. is this possible or do you need to take a boat?
Actually at low tide it’s an easy walk nit deep at all it was maybe only a couple of inches when we walked there
So whimsical, @tattoodjay!!!
Is there such a place!
I can play there all day.
How big is it?
Indeed very whimsical it’s about 6 acres I think
It will take you more than a day to explore the place!
Nit really there is nothing on it and it is mostly overgrown
I thought ot was the cover photo that was impressive but as I moved pn, the second and the third photo astonished me. They are looking like paintings in the shades of gold.
A job well done @tattoodjay sir.
Thank you kindly such a nice comment and Please call me JJ no need for sir :)
Okay JJ ⚘

Beautiful place, lovely pics!
Thanks I hope your day is going well

-Good evening Sir @tattoodjay ..Wow the Palmers Island looks so beautiful, it's a must to put it on the to-do list. It is worth visiting..a very adventurous thing to be done. A great place to unwind!
The 1938Hurricane destroyed the structures yet still the natural beauty of the surroundings remains the same.
I came to these very informative posts via @dreemport
Have a blessed evening!🙏

Thanks for your visit and kind support
This island has such a charm to it
I love the second image and how it color looks like. In fact visiting places like this could make one want to stay over and relax because everything about them is Nature.
@dreemport
Thanks such a kind comment
It's a beautiful island and it is like so sad for the whole structures to have worn away during that time.
We're they able to build in other houses in there? Or hurts or inn?
Anyways, the island is a beautiful one with the look.
@dreemport
No the island is just nature now and in a way I like it like that
Thanks for the visit
