Numerous instances of God's demands for Christians to show kindness and generosity toward others are given in the Bible. The Book of Luke, chapter 6, verses 32–36, has one of the clearest verses on this topic: "What credit is it to you if you love those who love you? Since even sinners adore those who also love them. What merit do you get if you return the favor to people who have helped you? Even sinners behave in the same way. Then you will get a tremendous reward and become sons of the Most High. But love your adversaries, do well, and give without expecting anything in return. Because He is gracious to the wicked and unthankful. Therefore, practice mercy in the same way that your Father does. Jesus is telling us to be kind and giving even when it is not in our personal best interests in this passage.

Romans chapter 12, verses 10–13, provides another noteworthy illustration of God's desire for us to treat people kindly: "Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, giving preference to one another in honor; not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, enduring suffering, and persevering in prayer; distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality." The Bible exhorts us to provide people compassion and sacrificial love above and beyond what they really need. This entails helping others who are less fortunate, selflessly giving of one's resources, extending hospitality, and showing compassion to those who are in need.

Finally, Paul outlines the sort of love that God wants us to have for one another in the book of Corinthians, chapter 13, verses 4–7: "Love endures everything, believes everything, hopes everything, endures all things; love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things." Here, Paul defines love as an act of unselfish compassion that does not aim to elevate oneself above others or take pleasure in their suffering. Instead, real love delights in speaking the truth and being compassionate toward others around us, no matter the cost.

In conclusion, God has made it very obvious in His word that He expects us to treat people with kindness and generosity on a regular basis. It is clear from reading the teachings of Paul and the words of Jesus recorded in the Bible that God has invited us to open our hearts in the same manner He has done for us, to love and be kind to others without expecting anything in return.
