Hi Brethren,
I'm contributing to the biblical question titled
"What is the faith of the thieves on the cross written in Luke 23:42-43? (Part 2 of 7)"
If you are doing God's righteousness will you be like filthy rags?
If you have submitted yourself to the righteousness of God.
"Matthew 6:33 But seek ye the kingdom of God, and all his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you"
So, your righteousness is counted. Your righteousness is valuable in the sight of God.
If you are doing the righteousness of God.
Not your own righteousness,
but His righteousness.
Our LORD Jesus Christ advised the Jews to seek first the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added unto you.
So, there is a great different between your own righteousness and God's righteousness.
While you are doing your own righteousness, how does God regard you?
If you are doing your own righteousness which is not under God's righteousness.
"Luke 16:15 And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God"
It is abomination. It is like a filthy rags in the sight of God.
So, Jesus Christ told the Jews and the hypocrites, you are only justifying yourselves in the sight of men, and it is abomination unto God, that which is highly esteemed among men.
This is a clear indication that there is a great difference in doing God's righteousness and doing your own righteousness to justify yourself in the eyes of men.
Those are two different things.
"Ephesians 6:6 Not with eye Service, as men pleasers, but as the Servant of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;"
So, there are those who are men pleasers doing righteousness in the sight of men, but what is in their hearts is abomination in the sight of God.
We must remember that to have proper interpretation of the words of God in the bible.
We have to take it within the entire bible itself.
You do not take it out of bible context.
Now there are religious leaders that say we do not have to do good works anymore.
That good works is not necessary.
That if you do good works, that they are like filthy rags in the sight of God.
That is a reckless interpretation of the scriptures.
It is not the truth and can never be the truth.
And if it is true, that faith can never save us.
Like the criminal on the cross who was justified because of faith. But he was to die few hours or minutes from then.
Why is because before then he was also mocking the LORD Jesus Christ on the cross. Mark 25:22
We must remember that they were only two that reviled HIM.
But before they died finally, one of them realized that may be as a result of what happened during the three or more hours that they were crusified on the cross, what he has particularly seen or experienced, opened his mind.
So, it is important that we practicalise the righteousness of God in order to be a candidate of heaven.
