After the first Timothy has been written to Timothy by Paul. He needed to continue to address some others things in this second letter because it wasn't covered up then.
Just as some valuable tips were addressed in the 1st Timothy, second one was also addressed concerning false Doctrines, false teachers and the need to be faithful and persevere. This second letter is sometimes called the last will and testament of Paul. This letter actually contains a lot of warning ahead coming.
The major themes in this book contains
(1). False Teachers and Doctrines
(2). Suffering and Perseverance
(3). Faithfulness in Life and Ministry.
Chapter 1
In Verse 1-2. Paul started by greeting his dear son about being faithful in the work. It has the same template as how he greeted Paul in the first chapter.
In Verse 3-7. Paul was trying to make Timothy aware that he still constantly prayed for him and not only that but also admonishing him to continue in that Faith he first saw in his grandmother Lois, and also his mother which is Eunice. He was also addressing Timothy not to forget that God has not given us the spirit of fear but of power, of love and of sound mind also. It is also important to fan to flame the spiritual gift we have noticed in us.
In Verse 8-12. Paul was trying to remind Timothy not to be ashamed to partake in the suffering of the gospel when it comes as he himself partakes in it and he believes that God is able to sustain and keep him till the end.
In Verse 13-18. Paul was trying to tell Timothy to hold on to the teaching he has passed to him and to keep the Standard of love he has passed to him also. Phygelus and hermogenes deserted Paul when he was in need. But onesiphorus keep standing with him even when he was in chains.
Chapter 2
In Verse 1-14. Paul was trying to tell Timothy to remain faithful and be a good solder of Christ. He was also telling him that those truth he has been taught of, he should also passed it to others generations. Paul was pledging his allegiance once more that he is willing to face and endure anything as far as the salvation is been passed across. And also lastly Paul was telling Timothy to be very careful of the type of conversations he engaged into.
In Verse 15-26. Paul was telling Timothy to be very careful of the type of worker he is and to avoid foolish talks that might want to lead to bad behaviour. As those types of talks always spread like cancer. If we are for the Lord, we must turn away from evil. We must also strive to keep ourselves pure in the house of God in order to be used by him also. Also we are been told to run away from anything that fueled up youthful lust. A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone.
One of my favorite books of the new testament for sure!
