I want to do God's will but how can I stop doing bad things? (Part 2 of 4) | The Old Path
Bible readings: James 1:14, Jeremiah 10:23, Proverbs 16:9
It takes the renewing of the holy ghost to depart from the path of evil. The holy spirit is needed to bring about a regeneration in us. Our human nature is drawn to things of this world. The devil's temptations are very powerful, especially when it is pertaining to the flesh. He uses these things to hold us bound.
James 1:14 - But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
Lusts are simply cravings. They could be cravings of the flesh or of the eyes. Everyone in life, presently or maybe at some point in time, have lusts. Every man has a couple of vices that he is struggling. The flesh spurs up cravings within us and all it wants is to be satisfied of that hunger.
Many of us genuinely want to deviate from that bad habit but find it really difficult. The truth of the matter is that it will be a very difficult task to accomplish if we rely on our strength.
A man walking the earth without the direction of the holy spirit is like someone trying to find his way through a strange land without a compass.
That person will definitely end up getting lost. That is what has happened to most people, they are actually lost. What they need to do is to redirect their steps. But man on his own cannot redirect his own steps. It takes the help of the Lord.
Proverbs 16:9 - A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.
If God doesn't redirect our steps, we'll remain trapped. He is always there for us. All we need to do is seek Him genuinely with the whole of our hearts.
