Obedience to God's will should be the priority of a Christian. We should be absolute in our commitment to God. God doesn't just wants us to be hearers of His word, more than that He also wants us to obey and carryout out His instructions contained in His word as well.
Isaiah 1:19 - If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:
Obedience to God comes with benefits. This is why we should keep God's word in our hearts and obey them because it is for our own good. Our obedience is not of God's advantage but to our own advantage. There are various blessings lying around waiting for us if only we are willing and obedient to God's word.
Philemon 1:21 - Having confidence in thy obedience I wrote unto thee, knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say.
We should get to the point that we are trusted to live a life of obedience. Apostle had trust in the people he was writing to. He believed that even if he wasn't with them they would still abide by God's word that he brought to them.
