Depression and anxiety — how to overcome these biblically (Part 1 of 3) | The Old Path
Bible readings: Phillipians 4:6-7, Hebrews 9:27, Luke 16:20, Isaiah 57:1
Difficult situations will always spring up in life. Many people end up in depression because of some of these situations. But as Christians, we should not experience depression no matter any situation we are going through. The spirit of God that dwells in us cannot create room for depression to dwell in us.
Phillipians 4:6-7
6 - Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
7 - And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Nothing is permitted to steal our peace. Our approach towards situations will determine whether we'll be depressed or not. The first action to take when faced with trying times is to pray. We give depression a chance to dwell in us when we become anxious instead of praying. Making prayers to God gives us peace of mind.
The book of Luke 16:20 tells us the story Lazarus. Despite the difficult times he went through, it was never recorded that he was depressed. Lazarus was poor in health and also in finances. Most of people don't go through half of what Lazarus went through but yet they end up getting depressed.
We should exercise faith in difficult times. Such times are the best times to be strong. We give the enemy an upper hand when we are depressed. Depression is not a state a Christian should dwell in. Depression is not of the Lord. Whatever we are going through would definitely phase off if we apply faith in the situation.
