Is praying enough to get closer to God? | The Old Path | MCGI

Bible readings: Matthew 7:7

Prayer is one step to receiving from God. The next step we need to take is taking actions. A person that asks from God and folds His arm to do nothing doesn't do himself any good. Whenever we ask from God, what follows suit is action. We have a role to play in making what we are asking from God to manifest.

Matthew 7:7 - Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

You can ask for a thing without actually seeking for it. Asking is simply done with our mouth. But when it comes to seeking, we have to step out if we actually desire to get that which we are looking for. An action should always be attached to our prayers that we bring before God.

Even Jesus, the son of God, needed act when He prayed to His father. We see this when He was preaching to the multitudes that were about five thousand in number. After praying to God, He went ahead to instruct His disciples to share the fishes and bread even though they were yet to be multiplied.

Many people don't know this but God is actually waiting on us to take actions before He answers our prayers. Expecting God to act when we have not acted or have no intention of acting is a waste of time. God wants to work. He doesn't condone laziness. Failing to work is failing to carryout our duties.

Another area in the Bible that makes us know that we need to act after asking from God is when Moses and the Israelites were held up at the red sea. After crying out to God, God demanded him to make use of the rod in His hand which parted the red sea and enabled the Israelites to pass through.

When we pray, we follow up our prayers with actions. This way, our prayers have greater chances of receiving response. God responds to action more than words. The question is not whether God will answer our prayers, the question is what are we doing after we have asked God?

While we are expecting God to grant us our expectations, He is equally expecting to make a move towards the direction of what we are believing Him for. Many people prayers have already been answered but they don't see the results simply because they have chose to do nothing about it.
