Domestic Violence | The Old Path
Bible readings: Ephesians 5:28, James 3:15-16, Ephesians 2:2
Domestic violence is a very critical matter in the world today. A lot of people are victims of domestic violence. Many women suffer physical abuse in their homes. We often hear of cases where a husband beats up his wife frequently. Whereas the Bible admonishes husbands to love their wives.
Ephesians 5:28 - So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
But as painful as it sounds, there are men who do not obey this commandment. A man cannot claim to love his wife and even think of laying his hands on her. Someone who beats up his wife is carrying out an act of hatred. Such a man is going completely contrary to the vows he made on the day of their marriage.
God is highly displeased with this act because He was present on the day the marriage vows were made. When a man beats his wife, he is bridging the agreement he had with his wife right before the presence of God. One of the vows is to love his wife till death separates them. But later they end up beating the person they are meant to love.
This means they later developed hatred for their wives during the course of their marriage. This hate is sponsored by the devil. He always fights against anything that is good. The devil is the only one that can influence a man to raise his hand against his wife and, in some cases, end up killing the wife in the process.
The devil is against us having love for one another generally, not just between a husband and the wife. People hating one another is the handwork of the devil.
James 3:15-16
15 - This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.
16 - For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.
The devil is always present in situations of chaos, strife, confusion, and hatred. Wherever the devil dwells, all these factors are clearly seen. We should fight to prevent the devil from having a place in our lives because where he dwells, the outcomes are always negative. We should give God a place in every area of our lives.
