What does the Bible say about giving our money to other people?
In cases of genuine need, we do not have to wait to be asked before offering some help. As christians and as the light of the world, we are to help out our fellow christians who are in need and we are also to take care of the needs of the poor and needy.
James 1:27
Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.
Hebrews 13:16
Do not forget the doing of good and the sharing of things with others, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.
I think that the plight of these needy ones must be so close to the heart of God if the Creator of the Universe encourages and commands us so many times to care for the poor, the orphan, and the widow?
1 John 3:17
But whoever has the material possessions of this world and sees his brother in need and yet refuses to show him compassion, in what way does the love of God remain in him?
We can pray for the poor but most importantly, we must actually provide physical or financial support where needed, because that is what christ meant when He said;
Matthew 25:40;
The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
As God's ambassadors here on earth, the light and the salt of the earth, God calls Christians to show examples in a hurting world, to not just pray for the poor, but to actually help them in times of need, providing all forms of support.
Proverbs 14:31 is another Bible verse which talks about the importance of giving to the needy.
Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honours God.
