Baptism was instituted by our Lord Jesus Christ and was made mandatory for everyone who confesses to being a child of God, according to Matthew 28:19;
(Revised Standard Version)
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
It is a sacred ordinance carried out in the name of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Ghost and it is commanded that we obey, to publicly confess our faith in Christ Jesus and to make us members of His community. If one is a disciple of Christ, one needs to show it by Baptism, so it enrolls us into Christendom where we continue our walk with Christ.
But Where Should Baptism Happen?
I agree with Bro. Eli Soriano that Baptism should be done inside a church, it should be a church’s act, except of course in cases where the church building is not easily accessible, like in the case of missionaries, in a very remote area.
In some places, baptism takes place in lakes, rivers, ponds or any body of water but I prefer it inside the church where it can be done safely and reverently.
This discussion brings to mind an incident that I heard about years ago, about a girl who almost got carried away by the river’s current where she was taken for baptism.
In my Church, we have a beautiful baptismal pool used solely for the purpose of baptism and I would agree a million times over that baptism should be carried out within the confines of the church, where Christ dwells.
