How do we understand the Bible?

in MCGI Cares Hive2 years ago

Greetings Everyone!

The Holy bible is not our words, but the word of God. This implies that in order for us to understand it, God's given understanding is required. Bro Eli explained that the Bible has its own interpretation and that God has given us the ability to understand it. When it comes to comprehending the Bible, human comprehension is constrained. We require the direction of the holy spirit of God since our intellect cannot comprehend the Bible on our own.

As men, the Bible says that our thoughts is vain, according to Psalms 94:11

The Lord knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity.

No human wisdom is enough to understand the details of the Bible. We can't read the Bible carnally and understand it.

1 Corinthians 11:9, makes it clear that God will destroy the wisdom of men.

This means that God has the power to destroy our understanding. Understanding must come from God alone.

Since the Bible is God's word, we need understanding from God. The help of the holy spirit is key to understanding the words of God.
We should rely on our academic background to understand the Bible, but on the help of the holy spirit.

However, we have hope. If we can turn to the corrections if God and do his will, he will make known his words to us.

1 Corinthians 2:11.

For what man knoweth the things of a man save the spirit of man which is in him? Even so the things of God knoweth no man but the Spirit of God.

It is the spirit of God that gives understanding of God's word. So our educational background notwithstanding, we should depend on God.

1 Corinthians 2:10

But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

The spirit of God understands the things of God, and is capable of guiding us into the deep things of God. We need God to reveal the true meaning of his words to us. We should depend our ourselves or our academic background.

1 Corinthians 1:20-21

Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

Since it is the holy spirit of God that inspired men to write the Bible, we need to depend on that same holy spirit for true interpretation of God's word.
