The true religion consists of the true worship of God in truth and in spirit. Basing the answer on the Bible, religion is a way of worshipping God or serving Him. It is used in the Bible, in Greek , it is called "Thrēskeia" which means religion, worshipping and ceremonial observance. The Bible teaches us true religion or true worship of God. James 1:26 explains that;
"If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is fake."
According to Bro. Eli Soriano, you have to know that if you indulge in religion but do not train your tongue, the way you speak, you speak carelessly(speak hatred, bad things to people), then your religion is in vain. Meaning that there is a good religion and there is a religion that is vain and the true religion, true worship, true service to God is taught in the Church of God in the Bible. First Timothy 3:15 says;
"But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the Church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth."
There is a true church in the Bible, the church of God. All the teaching on how to behave, how to worship, how to live, how to deal with people are all in the church of the Bible.
Religion is worshipping God…how do we worship God? John 4:23-24;
23:"But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship Him. 24:"God is a spirit; and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and truth."
It is clear that religion being taught in the church is to worship God in spirit and in truth and that is the true worship which is the true religion.
If you worship an animal or a bird, you are worshipping a false god not the true God of the Bible and if that is the kind of worship you are doing, that is something against God which He hates, Romans 1:25 says;
"Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed, forever.” We must worship the Creator not the creature according to Romans 1:23;
"And changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts and creeping things.”
Anyone doing any of these things belongs to a false religion because the true religion is to worship only the creator and not the creature. Worshipping any other god(s) means you’re a victim of false religion.
