What makes a true disciple of the lord Jesus Christ? | Part 2 | The Old Path

in MCGI Cares Hive2 years ago

As a follower of Christ, one is considered a disciple, regardless of whether or not they were among the 12 apostles. Being a disciple means more than just acknowledging Christ as Lord; it involves learning and practicing His teachings. In fact, if one claims to be a disciple but does not follow Christ's teachings, they are not truly worthy of the title.

The apostles themselves were both disciples and apostles, and their role in spreading Christ's teachings has been critical to the growth of Christianity. However, it's important to note that not all disciples are apostles. The apostles were specifically chosen by Christ from a larger group of disciples, as we see in Luke 6:13, where it says, "And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples; and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles."

As followers of Christ, we are all called to be disciples, and that includes preachers and teachers who spread the word of God. In 1 Timothy 4:13, Paul instructs Timothy, "Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine." This is Christ's admonition to all those who seek to spread His teachings, to read, examine, and teach doctrine. By following these instructions, preachers and teachers can become true disciples of Christ.

One of the most important aspects of being a disciple is knowledge of Christ's doctrines. In 2 Timothy 3:16-17, Paul writes, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works." By studying and understanding the Bible, we can gain the knowledge and wisdom we need to live according to Christ's teachings.

In addition to knowledge, a disciple should also possess certain qualities. In 2 Timothy 3:10, Paul tells Timothy, "But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience." These are the qualities that define a true disciple of Christ. By following Christ's teachings and embodying these qualities, we can become true disciples and lead others to the truth of Christ's message.
